Default 2006 Liberty Jeep CRD

Hi Guys I'm known as Country Bumpkin
I am having trouble with my 2006 Liberty 2.8 CRD
Will appreciate any help you can offer
It has 45 thousand miles
It is going to the limp mode steady. If I hit the fuel hard even at slow speeds it will shut right off
Any acceleration, other than mild puts it in limp mode.
I have cleaned my map sensor, it was not crudy, just covered in oil.
Unplugging it at the air box, does not change anything.
I am lost at what to do. The dealers in my area are out of the question.
Merry Christmas and thanks Guys

Welcome! And let me be the first to say it, cuz some others won't be as nice about it. You would probably get better feedback and more help if you didn't post in the non-technical section. Techs and site sponsors are always rummaging, looking for new questions to answer. Probably the Dodge General Section would be the best place to start. Good luck!

Welcome Bumpkin,

to make it easier I moved the complete thread.

The CRD has the same filter unit as the XJ Cherokee. And the same problems.

The CRD unit is very sensitive to air in the fuel lines. So if you mount a different filter unit, you are calling for trouble.

If you change the filters you must be sure that:

a) all rubber seals are tight and new (do not overtighten- it will not seal better).
b) put some diesel on the seal to assist sealing.
c) you have to bleed the fuel lines.

It is advisable to use a vaccum pump to refill the filter to make sure no air remains in the filter instead of using the built in fuel pump.
Make sure that you use new fresh fuel lines with new hose clamps. The old ones are getting hard and will not seal tight anymore. So air is getting into the lines.

Limp mode is a signal for some serious trouble- it usually happens when an important signal is lost and not been able to replace with constant number. Did you reconnect all sensors correctly? You touched the map sensor. Is it still ok?
Check the wiring!
The CRD is completly electronic controlled to gain high fuel efficiency and to keep emissions low. For that reason the DTC Diagnostic Trouble Code is an important hint.
If you want help you have to explain in detail what you have touched so far. It makes it impossible to track a failure if it is mixed up with welcome and x-mas greetings. Do have in mind that helps costs valuable time of our members- so make it as simple as possible to them to help you.

Depending on the error codes you have two problems- a fuel pressure related one (changed the filters) and a MAF sensor(cleaned the maf) problem. Because you touched both of them.

P0068-MANIFOLD PRESSURE/THROTTLE
POSITION CORRELATION

P0093 - FUEL RAIL PRESSURE
MALFUNCTION POSITIVE PRESSURE
DEVIATION

P0101-MAF SENSOR SIGNAL NEGATIVE
DEVIATION

P0101-MAF SENSOR SIGNAL POSITIVE
DEVIATION

P0108-MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE
SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH

I hope this will help. Have a nice and troublefree X-mas time!

Please, do us a favour- we have different sections.
'Welcome' does mean welcome! No problems discussed! That does mean no problems are discussed!
Urgents problems can be posted in the 'diesel in distress' section. And at last we have the Jeep Liberty section. I know that is a bit confusing for a noob. But we do it for a reason. It makes it easier to solve problems and to help our members.
Again

if you have some oil in the maf sensor take some denatured alcohol and spray on it and let it dry... this usually helps get the oil off it. I use to have a K&N air filter that the oil on it would mess with the MAF and I would have to clean it all the time...
