mileage woes 01' cummins
i've only just started to notice ( with the last 5 fuel stops) that i'm averaging about 14.5 MPG. Which seems a bit low to me, am i right ?
Most of my commute is @ 5:30 in the morning where there is no traffic, and is about 15 miles from my house' And visa versa, on the way back it's about an extra 15 mins worth of driving cause traffic sucks on the evening commute
i don't know if it's a transmission issue ( possibly not going into lockup ? ) or not running correctly ?
i've managed to track down the last owner of the truck, VIA a receipt' for DDP in town, and saw they only charged " 2.50 per quart for ATF " which to anything i have found is no where near the price of ATF +4 which i've spoken to a ton of transmission techs, and found that there is no replacement for these ATF +4 trany's.
Any tests i could run? or things i should try ?
Second question, i have a aftermarket fuel filter coming out of my fuel tank, i can't read any numbers on it, so i'm not sure what one i am supposed to replace it with.
I've had this truck for 22,000 miles, and the mileage seems to be way worse than normal !
PLEASE HELP !

the tires are 285/75/R17's ( i'm pretty sure) But what i didn't think about is i've got my
"Snow tires " on the rear, which are nothing but MT/R's.
if i remember correctly i'm generaly runnin about 1750 or so at 60 MPH
I'm lookin at gettin a different commuter car for now, so getting a programmer is out of the question.
Is there an additive that people like to run that helps mileage ? I was runnin Diesel Kleen? i think it was... and i don't remember for better or worse if it made a difference.
i hate the over head mileage estamate.. it's showing like 20.5 MPG.. even after i cleared it.
Any matinance i should try ? Just had an oil change, should i make the jump to synthetic ? what about the rear diff, i know it's due for a change, Synthetic as well ?

only additive id run is 2 stroke.
Id stay away from the other stuff.
Fluid change in diffs/block could help (i never saw it) .......
Check your fully out of 4wd (front shaft spins freely) if you have 4wd
Beyond that - injector or Vp44 issue -> bad timing (can't be advanced).
I'd start with
tires (and pressure)
fluids (diff/block)
cheap ($100) box like a powerpuck
MPG fooler via IAT (check Home Page of Mopar1973Man) if in cold temps
Fuel Pressure - assume you have guages - want 10psi + all the time
4WD front shaft

It's only a 2WD so that rules out the front hubs being locked in'
I'm gonna get my tire's changed back to my LTX's in the rear and air em' back up to 65' or so,
I've got fuel pressure gauge, and the lowest i've seen it go is 14 PSI @ WOT
Another thing i only just remembered when you said " Moparman " is the cleaning of the IAT and MAP sensors' if i remember right, it picked up my mileage before'
