Compound's on DT466
Probably a little ahead of being anywhere close to starting this project but here goes. I bought a '47 Ford 2ton a couple of months ago and plan to build an oversize hot rod diesel out of it. My local school system has a '92 International Dt466/6sp bus w/105,xxx miles that I can buy cheap. The trans is pretty freaking huge but I want a manual and I want it to hold together. I'm thinking compound turbos w/S400 72mm compressor inducer 1.32 A/R ex feeding the stock turbo. Not sure if this is A pump or P pump. So what injector would be needed for something like this? Would the pump plungers need to be larger?

The stock turbo is a T04, which is around a 54mm compressor. Not too ideal in a twin setup. An HX40 would be a huge upgrade. They came with either an A-pump or MW-pump, and usually with teenie little 10mm plungers. You can swap over to a P-pump with parts from Columbus, or similar sled pulling builder. and.... pulloff.com is a great place to shop for used performance parts. They can also give a pretty good idea on actual injector sizing. I would say in the 5X.016 range with a 12 or 13mm pump.

I aint chitting you, they really do. I think the couple years they had a 270hp version, it came with bigger plungers. I still have a couple chunks from a T04 from the 92 466 I took apart last year. The 466E has a similarly puny turbo, the GT37. Some say it's just a new version of a T04. At least those were in the 56mm range.

I guess that's the difference between markets driven by reliable 1,000,000 mile utility trucks VS. my 1 ton has 550hp and 700'lbs and yours only has 500/600.
If medium duty truck manufactures were doing the same marketing/engineering the 8 liter class would be 800hp/1500'lbs and scattering parts like the light duty market.

Huh thats crazy. I figured it would at least have to have a 58mm. So at least now I know not to go pull a turbo off a DT466 to put on my 12v......

This is probably true. But the thing is, OTR trucks dont need 3500rpm of range, because their only purpose is to haul trailers, and so they use anywhere from 10 to 18 gears. With so many light duty diesels used as DD's, this would not be a practical scenario for them.
Get the government to abolish the EPA and we'll get our old, reliable, high MPG diesels back.
