What would you choose?
So I have a buddy back home selling two of his trucks...he has quite the collection to envy. I am going to buy one of them from him when I get back state side. He has meticulously maintained everyone of his vehicles and never put a mod any of his trucks. These trucks have been used for nothing more then towing around hot rods and driving long distances to get parts and cars etc.
So the trucks in question
97 Ford F-350 CC LB DRW Powerstroke with 90k on the odometer. Never had any problems with it whatsoever.
2001 Chevy 2500 CC LB 4x4 w/ an LLY Duramax. The LB7 blew on him on a long trip home towing a 40ft enclosed car trailer....and still made it home. The motor had to be swapped out so he bought a newer LLY at the time and swapped it in... Runs great and has been used with no problems since then. Motor now has 70k, body has 100k.
I will be using the truck as a DD and towing a car trailer fairly often. Modding will be done but I am not looking for a anything crazy. I personally am leaning towards the Powerstroke myself. But if you guys had to make a choice which would you go with?

DD wise, the duramax will be you better choice. better ride, better interior. You will also have more horse and torque from dmax. Not trying to put down the 7.3 PSD, these are just my observations.
The only downfall i can see to the dmax is being the mix match years on the engine and chassis. I dont think it would cause too many problems, just might make buying parts a little wierd.
But it all boils down to what you want, and which truck suits your needs the best.

Personally I'd take the Ford for Proven Reliability, Of course many would disagree, and the GM would be more driver comfort friendly, but I'd still take the Ford

A seat swap will make the ford just as comfortable

Not to revive a ridiculously old thread but I had an update and didn't want to start a new one. Well I am currently home on leave so I took a trip to my buddies pops house. We discussed the details for awhile, so I had asked about the swapped engine in the GM. Turns out it's an 04 engine. He had mentioned that they had swapped all the injectors and what not when they swapped it so it makes me think it was an LBZ and not an LLY. But he had also mentioned that it wasnt necessary due to it being the later generation engine. So at the end of it all it had me guessing which platform is in there. What markings on the block I could look for or any cosmetic differences to identify the engine?
All in all regardless of identification I am leaning towards the Powerstroke. I have been in love with the OBS bodystyle since I first saw them. Normally I would say it's bad to make a decision with your heart and not your head but an OBS 7.3 is a beast of a truck.
On a side note I am contemplating a Cummins swap in the future. A clean OBS dually with a Cummins puts a huge smile on my face.
