Default $59,000 Dodge!

Last Sunday I thought I would have a little fun with Wifey. Just a few facts first. I'm 66 and she is a lot younger. We have been together for 30+ years. She never complains about what I do or what I spend the money on. We bought the truck in my sig. new for $33,000.

Heres what happened: We cruised around to a couple of dealerships and I would stop, get out and spend a few minutes looking the trucks over. She stayed in the car reading her book never saying a word. Finally, we got to the local Dodge dealer, same routine, I got out she stayed in the car with the AC running. This time, I spent a lot longer looking at this truck than before. I was truly curious about the truck, It had everything on it you could put on it and it was two toned kinda silver gray and cream. Very, very nice. Walking back to the car I had a momentary flash of insanity and actually thought what it would feel like to own it! Rationality returned as I opened her door and asked her to come with me to look the truck over.

Reluctantley, she joined me as we headed for for the truck. We got closer.....she said "its pretty". I pointed out all of the features, 4 doors, leather interior, sun roof all the goodies, you know the drill I'm sure. After all, our '97 was pretty plain Jane compared to this truck. We started at the front, made our way down the driver's side all the while I am talking this truck up, we go around back, I lower the gate and show her the sprayed on liner, ours is the original PendaLiner, I oohed and aahed the whole way until we reached the right rear door where the window sticker was. I went on to look further, she stayed there, suddenly she turned and started walking back to the car. Wow Ithought Ireally must have po'ed her, but no! She reached in the car, retreived her glasses and returned to stare at the window sticker for a long time. Heck, I was getting hot as the temps were in the low nineties. After what seemed like an eternity, took her glasses off, let them hang from that thingie that goes around her neck, turned and walked back to the car. I followed along and tried to get a step or two ahead of her as normally I open the door for her. Not this time! She was in the car, seat belt on, book in hand as I had only opened my door!

We drove off in silence and after a few miles I sheepishly asked, "well, what do you think ?"
"I think you bleep, more bleeps, lot more more bleeps" and after that stoned faced silence for the rest of the trip home. What started off to be just a joke on my part, now turned into a potentially serious arguement, the first one in many, many years. I though about saying something but thought better of it. Didn't get a chance to open her door this time either.

As she went to house, I stayed in the garage, grabbed a beer from the frig in there and walked back to the house and sat on the porch. I was debating wether or not to tell her that I was just joking the whole time, when she walked around the porch carrying a glass of tea, sat down in the rocker next to me and said very seriously, " If you promise me that you will still be driving this truck as long as you have the one you've got, go ahead and buy it". It was obviously a promise that most likely I would not be able to keep.

I'll tell you this guys, it'l be a long time before I try to trick her again. I'll never know if she was wise to me the whole time or not but, I never heard her cuss like that in the whole time we have been together.

If my wife told me to buy a $60,000 truck, I know I'd be paying for that for a long long time. And I'm not talking about the truck

I'm looking at mine now, it was $34,064.00. Looking back, I have never regretted buying it. Still, $59,000 is one helluva price for a pick-up truck. While I would never consider one, I did see a Ford F350 with a sticker of over $61K.

^Welcome to modern-age diesels. A fully loaded King Ranch edition F350 is easily deep into the the 60k. Hell, the harley davidson f350's were in the 60's too I think.
