Default CCV mod

I was talking to a buddy of mine who used to have a 6 liter. He told me of the Crank Case Ventilation modification that many do on the 6 liters and 7.3 trucks. Basically, the intake just before the turbo had a tube that goes to the valve cover that sucks oil back into the intake of the turbo. It's an emmission thing. To keep oil from entering the turbo and making the turbo gunk up, I used a 3/4 inch PVC plug and tapped it into the fitting plus a little JB weld on teh outside to keep it in place. On the valve cover, I plumbed 12 feet of 1 inch heater hose to vent the valve cover exhaust gases just infront of the rear tire. I did not want that CCV to vent under the hood as I was told that you can smell the ehxaust if you dont' vent it near the back of the truck. Easy mod for 30 bucks and it can possibly save your turbo.

It's not so much to save the turbo but keeps the oil out of the intake. It can help prevent the OEM turbo boot and IC boots from blowing off due to oil seepage. Seems after some time the oil deteriorates the boots.

Add to that it decreases the potential for soot to build up in the intake. Furthermore there are several mods that include a "catch can" design to prevent the oil blow-by from collecting under the truck.

If you have additional questions post them up!!

I did a DIY CCV mod to my service truck, '06 F550. The truck was bought at an auction, and it needed a new air to air as it was leaking at the tanks. All the air to air pipes were covered in oil, all the boots deteriorating, and inlet side of the turbo was covered in oil. Everything was cleaned up, new boots, new air to air, CCV reroute, and its the best sounding 6.0L service truck I've ran!

A catch can goes in line from valve cover to pcv inlet . It catches oil in the air before it circulates in your intake air and charge air cooler. If left it can deteriorate boots and may cause to blow off during high boost situations. Some choose to just vent to atmosphere. A small vacuum such as factory system has some minor benefits including better sealing of rings, hence catch can to get oil out.
