Default 4bt in s-10

I have a 89 s-10 4x4 with a 4.3. I am thiking about putting a 4bt in it. I want to know if this swap is a real pain? Will the 4wd get in the way of the pan? Will the stock trans handle the torq? What kind of mpg have others got with simmilar setups? This truck is nothing special just a to and from truck.

They put a lot of 4bts in bread vans with t400's so there are adapters out there. You could probably build the 700r4 to handle the power, but getting it to fit might be a challenge because it is so tall plus it is heavy. A lot of guys putting them in 1/2 ton full sized pu are getting high 20's depending on their set ups

6bt wow that's a little much for the truck. I bought the truck against my better judgment hopeing it would do better on fuel than my diesel it didn't 18 mpg on both. The specs say its about 1 inch taller than the 4.3. I know it looks alot taller to me. I am just wandering if the oil pan will clear the ifs or if it will need a straight axel.

Best thing to do is find a bread/chip van with the t400 and do some measuring. I still think the 700+ lbs is going to be an issue with the stock suspension.
