Default shutting down a benz

Well I finally got the benz 617 NA in the Cherokee. Thanks Mr Koch, your adapters work well so far. I do have a clatter when I put it in gear, but it is barely hooked up, and still on the lift.
Well I am running a 1976 normally aspirated 617 out of a MB 115 chassis. This engine has been sitting in the shop for a long time, I don't have the shutdown actuator anymore. and I am trying to figure out the linkage that will allow use of the standard jeep throttle cable, and still have some slack at idle to let the MB linkage go to shutdown.
Any of you benz jeepers still out there, I did not see any good linkage pics in the older build threads. Any suggestions on where to source a electric shutdown solenoid????

After pulling 2 MB engines and storing them, I think I finally figured out that you need to take as much stuff off the donor car as you can possibly get away with. If I ever pull another Mb engine, I am going to take everything that is not welded on.

thanks for any suggestion or pics of linkages built.

I would not try to use the emergency off function to shut it down normally. I thought about doing that myself, but the linkages will always be shabby. Use the vacuum pump from the engine to supply vacuum to a simple electric fuel valve. When the key is on, the vacuum shutoff for the engine injection pump is supplied with no vacuum. When the key is off, the vacuum gets supplied to the vacuum shutoff on the injection pump. If you are powering your brakes with vacuum also, just run a T fitting for the brakes. This is what I did for my scrambler / OM617 conversion in January, and it works fine.

thanks for the reply . I found a electric vacuum solenoid that is normally closed. I will use a momentary on push button to open the valve which will let it pull a vacuum on the OEM MB fuel shut off actuator. I already used a hand vacuum pump on this actuator, and it works easily and shuts the engine off quickly. Hopefullely that will sort out the shutdown.
After i repair the damage done by losing the TC bolts, hopefully all will be ok on the engine side, and I can concentrate on getting the oil sump to clear the front axle.
more updates should be out late next week

Use a 3 way valve and do away with the push button switch.

With a threeway valve connect the solonide live to your acc on the ignition switch, this energises the valve when the engine is running, then connect your vacuum to the opposite ends of the valve, thus reversing its function, giving you vacuum to the shutdown switch when the ignition is off.
The 3rd port is your exhaust... this is the other problem you will have with a two way valve, you need an exhaust otherwise the line will hold its vacuum as its a closed system, preventing you starting it again(it will eventually leak down).

This is what I use on my om603 and it works great, don't forget your 4mm 1/8 pushfits

That thing is perfect! Where do I get those push fittings?

why not hook up a hand throttle? That will set your idle and shut it down, same set up that I have on my unimog.

for whatever it's worth - I'm considering an old Mustang throttle body as a "just in case" shutdown device since I'll be using a used turbo at first and fear a runaway.
