Random black smoke
As of today my 06 started black smoking at WOT, which is strange to me because the egr has about 1000 miles on it. Is even a small amount of black smoke something to worry about? It's only a little bit of smoke. I plan on checking for codes tomorrow. I've also noticed fluctuations in my coolant. Could they be related?

Black smoke is nothing to worry about really, unless it is real bad. Does the truck seem under powered? do you still have the Cat on? could also mean you might have to clean the turbo. How do you drive? put a list of any mods so we know what we are dealing with.

if you drive really easy on the truck the vanes can stick. how do you drive it? if i drive mine like a grandpa for a few days without kickin the turbo at all, then i completely hammer it off the line, itll smoke like a train. its just clogged up soot. i wouldnt worry about it, unless it is extremely thick constantly

No, it doesnt really feel underpowered. Yeah i still have the cat. I drive about 40-150 miles A day. I'm not rough on it. The truck is completely stock. I've replaced the egr and the oil cooler

The smoke isn't thick but it does seem to be constant.

if i were you i would run it from 30-80 pedal to the floor about once every 2-3 days to keep the vanes of the turbo from sticking.
when you say constant, is it constant even at idle? constant speed or accelerating?

is the truck programmed or horsepower beefed up any way? also a dirty air filter can cause it to smoke more than usual

Honestly i dont think your problem is bad enough to have to take it somewhere. All they will do is charge you $75 an hour to "look" for problems. If its not throwing codes theres nothing to be done.

I would pull the Exhaust Back Presure sensor wich is located on a stainless tube right by the center of the drivers side valve cover, pull it off and clean it up and clean out the tube, I would pull the tube off to clean it because if you spray alot of carb cleaner through the tube you may get a big backfire when you fire up the truck. Its free and easy to do and can cause little problems like this if they get plugged up.
