Default fuel problem maybe?

sometimes when im driving , my f350, 7.3 makes a wierd sound and the whole truck jumps. its feels like a power surge just for 1 second or a build up of some sort. then it goes back to driving normal. it does this every couple weeks. it shakes the whole truck, usually around 45 miles per hour. kind feels like a 1 second rev up of the engine. anyway, i have no idea where to go with this or what it could be. any help would be appreciated.

mine does this sometimes also about once every 2-3 weeks. its been doing it for a long time though. mine isnt violent like you are describing, though. mine just revs maybe an extra 200 rpm. i can hear the turbo spool quick then get back to normal so i dont think theres any problem. if there is im sure there could be a million culprits as with everything else :p

im just waiting for someone to tell you "its a ford, thats why"

we have had some trucks come in with the same problem.

one fix was the cam shaft sensor, it would allow the truck to start and run down the road, then it would jerk really hard, almost like the truck lost all fuel.

another truck was the fuel filter and bowl assembly, it had a small leak and would cause air to get into the fuel, this is pretty easy to spot, you will have fuel down between the engine, and it will smell liek fresh diesel.

another truck was the wiring harness was loose going throught the gasket, just had to replace the gaskets and harness becasue someone broke off the clips to hold it on.
