1995 Dodge 5.9 Cummins Loss of Power
Hey guys. I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 3500 with the 12 valve 5.9 Cummins. It is completely bone stock and yesterday I was driving and it was running good and normal. I parked it and a half hour later I came out to go to the store and I started it and the idle was pretty low and sounded like it was going to konk out. After warming it up I took off and noticed that I had no power. I would floor it and the truck would slowly climb up to speed. Usually there is a small amount of black smoke when I step on it but now there is no smoke. But when I first start it and get going there is a small amount of white/grey smoke coming out of the exhaust. And when the truck warms up the white/grey smoke is gone. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Change your filters and check for any loose fittings or rubbed lines where you could be sucking air.

Thanks for your reply tomduelly. I replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the pre filter and it still wasn't fixing it. So i checked the fuel shutoff solenoid and found out that the piston in the solenoid was pulling up to the magnet but the little rod that connects to the linkage wasnt pulling up all the way to the magnet since it is two pieces. I took it off and let the linkage be fully open and the truck ran great! So the rubber boot was all rotted and ripped so I tried to use a bicycle innertube like some of the other posts said but no luck. It's still separating. I will try a shorter homemade boot . Any other suggestions to keep those two pieces together?

The rubber boot is only a dust cover. If the plunger and threaded part came apart you need a new one. This picture is of a bad one. It is normally one connected peace.

Ohhhh. Excellent. Thanks dodge ram truck. I was starting to wonder why the heck they would have them be 2 separate pieces. Its working now but probably only a temporary fix. Thanks for the info guys! Much appreciated.
