Hi,
The tensioner bolt hole was stripped ! I think the last mechanic used epoxy ! Mirracle I dove it 10,000 miles. Bottom line. After chasing the thread. Picking up a longer 10mm Stud to catch the unused thread. Original was a 10mm bolt. Using a wire wheel on the mating surfaces.......

The piece broke off as I pulled back on the tensioner to fit the new serpentine belt. If you are familiar with this engine... two bolts are available and close to this edge.

Machine a steel adaptor to fit these bolts with a plate extending past the original piece to put a bolt or Stud ?

I quickly found 1/4 steel brackets at Home Depot to make the alternator swivel on its lower 1/2 bolt.

Even was able to mount both alternators securely with a bit of adjustment to tension the belt. However the belt is a bit short. Ordered a pair of 60mm OD pulleys. $18.66 shipped. To replace the 87mm pulleys on the alternators.

The engine only had one alternator. J mount Delco S22

This truck towing my car stays at 50-55

Can I do old school with this engine. No tensioner. Just using a shorter/longer belt and using the alternator travel to tighten it?

Thats how my Dodge D600 truck was LOL. Had that one over twenty years. Replaced the serpentine twice LOL.

I realize loosing the 60-70 degrees and wrap- around the alternator pulley might cause problems.

Such as alternator pulley slip and Belt slipping off. The Dodge had a big gas engine that did not vibrate much

Between IHC 8 groove and Ford 8 groove belts might find one to fit?

Over 2 million made DT466. EGR yada yada killing off this legend engine. Used in numerous truck applications.

Got to be a work around other than replacing the whole timing cover. Needless to say removal and re-installation of all these components and the cost of another timing cover. Also my feeling is that this is a weakspot on this engine.

Remove timing cover; having the small piece welded back on? Last resort I hope.

Anyways. If I mount two alternators this would allow a high output inverter to be used connected to marine batteries separate from the starting running circuit.

Maybe another belt tensioner for a different engine using one of the other bolt holes near the original that is a bit shorter ? Assuming shorter. A kit I am not aware of? That repositions the tensioner?

Or somebody did it already and can walk me through?

Over 2 million engines made. This issue has to have happened before.

Noticed several conversions using the DT466. Might get lucky on this forum.

Using lets say
Devcon I feel is not going to work.

After deep thought and weighing the time/cost involved in various solutions. Going to try this.

Its a guess as to the length of the belt. I also had to guestimate for the change in pulley size on the alternator. Smaller pulley.

Original 8 ribbed belt is 72.5......-1 inch for the smaller pulley.

Using the two 10mm bolt mounts that are close to the original bolt hole mount. Run 2 1/4 inch thick steel plates. About 2inches wide.

Bolt a third plate onto these two which parralel the original placement and hole of the tensioner.
Drill and tap for the original 10mm stud. Aproximately one inch from the center of the original bolt hole.

Drill/grind the small hole required for the tensioner alighnment protrusion mark.I due this after mounting the belt.

Subtract another inch off the original belt length. Goodyear has a 70.5 length.

Of course have to use longer 10mm bolts than what is on the block. Same grade.

Will do it next week and take a few pictures. Ought to work fine.

Lot of work. Beats replacement/repair of the timing cover.

Don't hesitate to post what you feel is a better solution.
