Thanks Cummins Guy, I'll give em a shout
I just found the part number, but it's in a very old GM Coach and Truck Devision Parts Manual. I'm sure the number has changed quite a few times since 1947....
Thanks for the contact numbers

If you are speaking of Part #17 from the V Govenor. You might try any Bus Company or infact any Company or Junk Yard that might have old engines or a Trashed Governor that might have an in tact Spring in it.
They Junk yards for big Rig Diesels and Busses.
I have not seen a Detroit Diesel since I worked in the Diesel Shop at the local Naval Ship Yard (long gone) in 1986. Don't remember details.
This place sells parts and has some sort of online catalog.

If the Spring is not available you could to try is to dissemble that Throttle Rod that is attached to the Head and Wire Wheel as much Rust and yo can off of the outside and especially the Bearing Area and clean out and re-lube the Bearings area.
That might free it up enough for the old Spring to work or lat least work better.
Rememer I do not know how much room is avaliable to you.
I would be seiously thinking about using a generic spring with a Hook on both ends as they do on Car Throttle Linkages and make a Bracket to attach to the Throttle Linkage and another Brackit on the Engine so that it would pull on the Linkage.
The Springs come in different lengths and wire thicknesses. OUt here in S. CA where I am OSCH used to sell such Springs and ACE Hardware may also sell them.
I suppose it might be possible to bend Double Hooked Spring ends to fit your stock application but I kind of doubt if it would work out well as the one bend on the original Spring looks very tight.

Yeah, it's the other end that broke off.
Tis that or that spring is just used as some sort of a spring washer. I dunno... The long spring that is currently being used for the throttle return is not quite strong enough to completely return when it comes to shutdown... And not trustworthy. (Was like that when I bought the bus) I've shortened it several times and don't dare do it again or it will be a gonner!
Hence me having to exit the bus to manually shut her down most of the time.
Several places I've spoken to have said I should just go to the hardware store and pick up a screen door spring and modify it.
I on the other hand, prefer OEM parts when I can get em.
