Default 5.9 Dead in Parking Lot

New to the forum needing answers. Got a 2000 Cummins 5 speed stock except for exhaust. Been forced to run it with CEL on due to having to go to work. It's had the p1693 code since I've had it and its run fine. Just the other day as I was driving down the road the tach died and it started running real sluggishly and after a couple miles it cleared up and ran fine. The light stayed on and did the key trick and still had a p1693 code popping up. Went to advance to pull codes and found out that the obdII port doesn't work. Checked all the fuses with a test light and they were good. So I figured I'd try to replace the crank sensor but I havent gotten around to doing it. Now I'm stuck in Walmart and my truck won't run but will turn over. I can hear the lift pump coming on when I turn the truck on. It's my daily driver and its got 117000 miles on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Have any wrenches? Pull the line going to the injection pump and bump the starter see of its getting fuel.

Does it have good flow? Or just trickling out? I'd say your VP is done or your pop is going bad which caused your VP to die to.

Got it running. It had good flow. As soon as I cracked the line after he turned the key it spewed a lot of fuel out. I got back in and tried to crank it once more and it sounded like it wanted to start. So I bumped the starter a couple of times and to prime it and it started right up. It still had no tach on the way home amd it ran sluggish. I'm gonna fix the crank sensor before I run it again and see if the code still there. What else do you recommend me me doin?sorry I'm new to the cummins world

What do you mean by pop?

Meant lift pump. Your lift pump sounds weak not supplying enough fuel to injection pump.

Yea I've been meaning to get a FASS or Airdog and a set if gauges but just haven't had the time nor money. I'm gonna get on that crank sensor and see what happens and try to figure out what's wrong with my obd port and take it from there. It will definitely be parked during the process. Thanks for the help and I will let you know how everything's goin

First you do need no less than 8 psi at wot (Wide Open Throttle) and no less that 16 psi at idle. If you lift pump does not meet these specifications you do not have enough fuel making it to the injection pump which will cause a no start. Also it will burn up the injection pump, a 160 dollar lift pump is alot cheaper than a 1100 injection pump. But if the crank sensor is not operating or for some reason is acting weird it will not open the shut off solenoid to start the truck. But almost sounds like you lost prime..

Also before replacing the crank sensor check to make sure the tac ring is not full of oil or grease and check the distance between the sensor and tac ring.
