I am usually working in China for a foundation that has three orphanages but am home on furlough for 1.5 to 2 years. During this time I want to buy an older van, convert it into a mini motorhome and have a diesel engine installed in it. Actually I am starting to see some of these being sold for dirt cheap - without the diesel. I want the diesel because usually when I am home I have to travel 8,000 miles and need to carry my computer, some books, brochures, letters, etc with me. Also I want to be able to have an engine that will accept a generous mixture of diesel and svo. I am not confident about this country's supply of dino fuel in the future.
Can anyone give me a suggestion for a van/engine combo? I want to have a 4 or 5 speed stick installed so am hoping to get an engine/tranny combo to make installation easier - will not need an adapter for engine and tranny. I am hoping to be able to cruise effortless at 70 mph with the van, even with 4 people in it and 200 pounds of stuff. Ideal, of course is to get at least 25 mpg - more is better Also, I am thinking that if I can get an inline 6 or V6 to replace a V8 the gross weight of the vehicle will not change much. Thanks in advance. - Last edited by pengyou; 08-17-2008 at 05:09 AM.. |

If you were thinking about an inline 6, find a B series Cummins, one that is turbo charged. - |

welcome to diesel bombers. im not for sure on a van with out some serious modifactions to the firewall, would be able to fit the inline six cummins in it. so i think a 4bt would probably work better for ya IMHO. but good luck no matter what ya end up doin. keep us posted on it -
