when did chevy start putting duramax diesels and the allison tranny in their trucks??

2001, as soon as the redesigned 3/4tons came out. Not sure of the exact date though. I think they were available around August of 2000 as 2001 models.

Yep '01. I have one the first one's in my fleet with 185000 on the clock.
