Classic will be - LBZ
New body style- LMM

Look at the tag in your glove box to confirm. RPO code LBZ will be there.

Jim, to help brake this down even further, 01-04.5 Duramax is an LB7, 04.5-06 Duramax is LLY, 06-07 Classic, is LBZ, and 07.5+ is LMM

Heres a detailed breakdown of each motor

Jim,

I believe in the 8th digit if your vin will identify the generation of Duramax you have. Yours should have a "D" thus idenitying the LBZ generation. The 07.5, NBS, have the LMM generation. Not sure what the designator in the VIN is though. Hope this helps

LB7 was from 2001 to 2004.5

1st generation LLY was from 2004.5 to 2006

this engine is not the same as the 2nd generation LLY. you could get both LB7 and LLY with the 5 speed auto Allison or the 6 speed ZF manual

LBZ and 2nd generation LLY was 2006 to 2007.5

you can only get the second generation LLY in 2006 and it only came with the ZF 6 speed manual. it is nothing more than a detuned LBZ. (same block, crank, heads, blah, blah, blah, just different computer tuning) the LBZ is only available with the 6 speed automatic Allison. the LBZ was the only engine offered in 2007 to 2007.5

LMM is 2007.5 to present

PIECE OF S*&T DPF......nuff said.....
