Default trouble codes

wondering if anyone can help me with codes on my 05 duramax po 101,po299, coo55, bo229 any help please truck runs great for a while then check engine light comes on and runs like crap truck is an 05 gmc duramax with 225,000 miles one owner, max energy Afe cold air intake, mbrp 4 inch exaust - converter.

DTC B0229

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The following DTCs are for the HVAC door actuators:

  • B0229 is for the recirculation actuator.
  • B0414 is for the left air temperature actuator.
  • B0424 is for the right air temperature actuator.
  • B3770 is for the mode actuator.
The HVAC control module controls the HVAC door actuators to regulate the airflow through the HVAC system. Each actuator consists of a stepper motor, a logic circuit, and a potentiometer. The potentiometer inside the door actuator allows the module to monitor the current position of the actuator drive shaft. The module supplies a 5-volt source voltage to the potentiometer on the 5-volt reference circuit. The module supplies ground to the potentiometer through the low reference circuit. The HVAC control module monitors the voltage drop across the potentiometer on the door position signal circuit. When the actuator shaft rotates, the voltage on the door position signal circuit changes. The module converts the voltage value to a count value where 1 volt is approximately equal to 51 counts.

The HVAC control module calibrates the travel range of the HVAC door actuators when it is initially powered by the battery positive voltage circuit. During calibration, the module commands the actuators in each direction until door travel is stopped. The module stores the minimum door positions and the maximum door positions of each actuator into memory. The total travel range is calculated by subtracting the minimum door position from the maximum door position. The door actuators can be calibrated again with a scan tool.

DTC DESCRIPTORS
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTCs:

  • DTC B0229 Recirculate Position Feedback Circuit Range/Performance
  • DTC B0414 Temperature Control 1 Feedback Circuit Range/Performance
  • DTC B0424 Temperature Control 2 Feedback Circuit Range/Performance
  • DTC B3770 Air Flow Control 6 Feedback Circuit
CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING THE DTC

  • Battery voltage is 8.7-16.5 volts .
  • The ignition is ON.
CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
The DTC sets when one of the following conditions are present:

  • The actual door position value for the actuator is less than 5 counts.
  • The actual door position value for the actuator is greater than 250 counts.
  • The actuator fails calibration because the calculated travel range value is too great or too small.
ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS

  • If the DTC sets because the actual door position value is out of range, the HVAC control module will command the actuator to a default position.
  • If the DTC sets because the actuator failed a calibration, the HVAC control module will attempt to calibrate the motor in the next transition from OFF to RUN mode.
CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE DTC

  • The DTC will become history if the HVAC control module no longer detects the condition that set the DTC.
  • The history DTC will clear after 100 fault-free ignition cycles.
  • The DTC can be cleared with a scan tool.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS

  • If the condition is not present
  • If the DTC sets following a calibration of the door actuator, inspect the door and the actuator for the following conditions:
  • A misaligned actuator
  • Broken linkages or binding linkages
  • A broken door or a binding door
  • An obstruction that prevents the door from operating within the full range of motion
  • Missing seals to the door
  • Poor connections at the harness connector of the door actuator
  • If a signal circuit of an actuator is short to ground and the resistance across the internal potentiometer is low, then this condition could cause a multiple DTC concern.

DTC C0055 or C003D
Circuit Description
The powertrain control module (PCM) converts the signal from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) to a 128 k pulses/mile signal. The electronic brake control module (EBCM) uses the vehicle speed signal from the PCM to calculate the rear wheel speed.

DTC Descriptor
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:
DTC C0055 Rear Wheel Speed Sensor (Both Wheels) Circuit

Conditions for Running the DTC

  • The ignition is ON.
  • The vehicle speed is greater than 13 km/h (8 mph) .
Conditions for Setting the DTC

  • The EBCM detects an open or shorted vehicle speed signal circuit for 500 milliseconds.
  • The EBCM detects the absence of the vehicle speed signal for 5 seconds. If more than one absent wheel speed sensor signal is detected, the condition must be present for 120 seconds to set DTC's.
  • The EBCM detects an erratic vehicle speed signal for 200 milliseconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets

  • The EBCM disables the ABS/dynamic rear proportion (DRP).
  • The ABS indicator turns ON.
  • The brake warning indicator turns ON. The actions above are maintained during subsequent ignition cycles until the EBCM completes a power up self-test. This test concludes when the vehicle achieves a speed greater than 13 km/h (8 mph) and the wheel speeds are verified by the EBCM.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
The Conditions for Setting the DTC are no longer present and you use the scan tool Clear DTC's function.

Diagnostic Aids
Thoroughly inspect connections or circuitry that may cause an intermittent malfunction.

Test Description
The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step tests for a voltage signal from the PCM.
  2. This step tests for a missing or erratic vehicle speed signal from the PCM. An assistant may be required to perform this test.

Turbocharger Engine Underboost

DIAGNOSTIC FAULT INFORMATION

IMPORTANT: Always perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure. See: Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures

CIRCUIT/SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor measures the pressure inside the intake manifold. Pressure in the intake manifold is affected by turbocharger output, engine speed, accelerator pedal input, air temperature, and barometric pressure (BARO). A diaphragm within the MAP pressure sensor is displaced by the pressure changes that occur from the varying load and operating conditions of the engine. The sensor translates this action into electrical resistance. The MAP pressure sensor wiring includes 3 circuits. The engine control module (ECM) supplies a regulated 5-volt reference circuit, a ground on a low reference circuit, and the MAP pressure sensor provides a signal voltage to the ECM , relative to pressure on the signal circuit. The ECM converts the signal voltage input to a pressure value. Under normal operation the lowest pressure that can exist in the intake manifold is equal to the BARO. This occurs when the vehicle is operated at idle or when the ignition is on while the engine is off. The highest manifold pressures occur when the turbocharger output is high. Manifold pressure can range from 58 kPa (8 psi) when pressures are low to more than 240 kPa (34 psi) when pressures are high, depending on the BARO. The MAP pressure sensor has a range of 33 kPa (4 psi) to 255 kPa (36 psi) . The ECM monitors the MAP sensor, by comparing a calculated predicted value at a predetermined engine load and speed, to the actual input.

CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING THE DTC

  • DTC P2564 or P2565 is not set.
  • The engine speed is between 800-3,000 RPM .
  • DTC P0299 runs continuously when the above conditions are met.
CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
The measured MAP pressure is 39 kPa below the expected range for 10 seconds .

ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS

  • The control module illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) when the diagnostic runs and fails.
  • The control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The control module stores this information in the Freeze Frame/Failure Records.
CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE MIL/DTC

  • The control module turns OFF the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) after 3 consecutive ignition cycles that the diagnostic runs and does not fail.
  • A current DTC, Last Test Failed, clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.
  • A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported by this or any other emission related diagnostic.
  • Clear the MIL and the DTC with a scan tool.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS

  • If the condition is intermittent. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Inducing Intermittent Fault Conditions. See: Diagrams\Diagnostic Aids
  • A MAP sensor that is stuck at BARO, or is 40 kPa lower than desired while under boost, will cause this DTC to set. Use a scan tool and compare the MAP Sensor parameters to a known good vehicle. Operate both vehicles under various conditions.
SPECIAL TOOLS REQUIRED
J 46091 Charge Air Cooler Tester

CIRCUIT/SYSTEM VERIFICATION

  1. If DTCs P003A, P0045, P0698, P0699, P2563, P2564 or P2565 are set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle for further diagnosis. See: Diagnostic Trouble Code Descriptions
  2. Verify the integrity of the air induction and turbocharger pipes and hoses by inspecting for the following conditions:
    • Any damaged components
    • Loose or improper installation
    • Wet or restricted air filter
    • Exhaust leaks before the turbocharger
    • Exhaust restrictions after the turbocharger
    • Charge air cooler leaks, with a Special Tools
IMPORTANT: If you cannot duplicate the condition, operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records.

CIRCUIT/SYSTEM TESTING

  1. With the engine running, use a scan tool to command the TC Vane Pos. Ctrl. Solenoid ON. Take a snapshot of the engine data while slowly increasing the engine speed to 2,200 RPM , and then back to idle. Plot the snapshot and verify that the MAP sensor parameter increases smoothly as the engine speed is increased and decreased smoothly as the engine speed is returned to idle.
    • If the MAP parameter does not change smoothly or does not follow engine speed, replace the MAP sensor.
  1. Test the turbocharger oil supply feed. Refer to Turbocharger Lack of Oil Supply. ]See: Fuel Delivery and Air Induction\Turbocharger
  2. Inspect the turbocharger oil supply tube for restrictions.
    • If a restriction is found, clean or replace the oil supply tube as necessary.
  1. Inspect the turbocharger for debris, worn impeller and turbine blades, or damage
    • If a worn or damaged turbocharger vanes are found, replace the turbocharger assembly.
REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS

IMPORTANT:

  • Always perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
  • If any service has been performed on the turbocharger or on the turbocharger components, a turbocharger relearn must be performed. Failure to perform the turbocharger learn procedure may cause this DTC to set. Refer to Turbocharger Learn Procedure.
  • Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor Replacement
  • Turbocharger Vane Position Sensor Replacement

MAF Sensor



CIRCUIT/SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The mass air flow (MAF) sensor is an air flow meter that measures the amount of air entering the engine. The engine control module (ECM) uses the MAF sensor voltage signal to provide the correct fuel delivery for a reduction in emissions. The ECM uses the MAF sensor signal to control fuel delivery until a calibrated amount of engine air flow is attained. The MAF sensor produces an output voltage based on the inlet air flow through the air induction system. This output voltage will display on the scan tool as a voltage parameter and as a grams per second (g/s) parameter. The ECM compares the actual MAF sensor voltage signal to a predicted MAF value. This comparison will determine if the signal is stuck, or is too low or too high for a given operating condition.

CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING THE DTC
  • DTC P0102, P0103, P0106, P0107, P0108, P0112, P0113, P0117, P0118, P0642, P0643, P0652, P0698, P0699, P2228, P2229 are not set.
  • The ignition 1 signal is between 9-18 volts .
  • The intake air temperature (IAT) Sensor parameter is more than -20°C (-4°F) .
  • The engine coolant temperature (ECT) Sensor parameter is more than -20°C (-4°F) .
  • The BARO Sensor parameter is more than 71 kPa .
  • The engine speed is less than 3,500 RPM .
  • The engine speed is steady within a range of 50 RPM .
  • The above conditions are met for more than 2 seconds
  • This DTC runs continuously within the enabling conditions.
CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
The ECM detects that the MAF sensor voltage signal is not within a predetermined range of the calculated MAF value for more than 15 seconds .

ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS

  • The control module illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on the second consecutive ignition cycle that the diagnostic runs and fails.
  • The control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The first time the diagnostic fails, the control module stores this information in the Failure Records. If the diagnostic reports a failure on the second consecutive ignition cycle, the control module records the operating conditions at the time of the failure. The control module writes the operating conditions to the Freeze Frame and updates the Failure Records.
CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE MIL/DTC

  • The control module turns OFF the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) after 3 consecutive ignition cycles that the diagnostic runs and does not fail.
  • A current DTC, Last Test Failed, clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.
  • A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported by this or any other emission related diagnostic.
  • Clear the MIL and the DTC with a scan tool.
SPECIAL TOOLS REQUIRED

  • J 46091 Charge Air Cooler Tester
  • J 35616-200 Test Lamp Kit

CIRCUIT/SYSTEM VERIFICATION

IMPORTANT: If you cannot duplicate the condition, operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records.

IMPORTANT: Verify that the engine is in good mechanical condition before continuing with this diagnostic.

Verify the integrity of the air induction system by inspecting for the following conditions:

  • Restrictions in the MAF air induction system and the turbocharger system
  • Restrictions in the exhaust system-Refer to Restricted Exhaust. See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust\Exhaust System\Testing and Inspection\Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures\Restricted Exhaust
  • Leaks in the charge air cooler with a J 46091
  • Leaks at the MAF/IAT sensor O-ring seal
  • Leaks at the MAP pressure sensor seal
  • Cracked or damaged MAF sensor housing
  • Restricted intake air duct or a dirty air filter element
  • Debris blocking the air sensing filaments of the MAF sensor
  • A MAF sensor that is installed backwards
  • An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve that is stuck open.
A skewed MAF sensor will also cause the predicted MAF value to disagree with the actual MAF sensor value. Use the scan tool to compare the MAF Sensor parameter to a known good vehicle under various operating conditions.

CIRCUIT/SYSTEM TESTING

IMPORTANT:

  • If DTC P0405 is set, diagnose that DTC first.
  • The DMM and test leads must be calibrated to 0 ohms in order to prevent misdiagnosis. Use the DMM to perform this test. Refer to the DMM User Manual for the calibration procedure.
  • Use the J 35616-200 for this test. If the J 35616-200 is not available, use a test lamp that measures more than 20 ohms .
  1. With the ignition ON, the engine OFF, the mass air flow (MAF) sensor disconnected, connect a test lamp between the MAF sensor 12-volt reference circuit and a good ground. Measure the voltage of the MAF sensor 12-volt reference circuit at the probe end of the test lamp, with a DMM connected to a good ground.
    • If the voltage is less than battery voltage, test the circuit for a high resistance or a faulty ECM.
  1. With the MAF sensor still disconnected, use the scan tool to observe the MAF Sensor parameter.
    • If the MAF Sensor parameter is more than 0 volts , test the MAF sensor signal circuit for a short to voltage or a faulty ECM.
  1. Connect a jumper wire between the MAF sensor signal circuit and the IAT sensor signal circuit. Use a scan tool to observe the MAF Sensor parameter for the proper value of more than 4.7 volts and 500 g/s .
    • If the MAF Sensor parameter is less than 4.7 volts and 500 g/s , test the MAF sensor signal circuit for a high resistance or a faulty ECM.
  1. Turn OFF the ignition, and all electrical accessories. Allow sufficient time for the control module to power down before taking a resistance measurement. With a DMM, measure the resistance between the low reference circuit of the MAF sensor and a good ground.
    • If the resistance is more than 1.5 ohms , test the circuit for a high resistance or a faulty ECM.
    • If the MAF sensor circuits test normal, replace the MAF sensor. Refer to Repair Instructions in this diagnostic.
REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS

IMPORTANT: Always perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.

  • Mass Air Flow (MAF)/Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Replacement for MAF/IAT sensor replacement
  • Control Module References for ECM replacement, setup, and programming

Take off the max energy and see if that changes anything. and clean the maf sensor.
