Default Air in fuel system! HELP

So all right I bought my truck about a year ago and usually when guys buy a used truck you update your fluids and filters. So I did the truck had a o reillys house brand fuel filter on it and am a wix guy so I replaced Iit with one. The truck started fine before I did this and about a week after I changed the filter it started hard starting but not to a point where I couldn't get it started. So a few months go by and it got worse so I took the filter back and got another wix filter, the first wix filter I installed was a high efficiency wix and this one was just a regular wix. So I installed it and it improved for like a week and then just got worse so I ended up deciding I needed to rebuild the filter head so I ordered the parts and replaced and nothing helped. Then being at my wit's end I thought maybe I should put what it had on it when I bought it back on so I bought a house brand filter from o reillys on installed and I tell you what I was excited it was fixed drive for a month fine then the cold weather came drove it to work came out of work wouldn't start tried priming it started to leak fuel out around the primer button towed it n home. Waited till the weather was decent went out to start fire right up. So I Was Like Alright Good To Go No Leaking ran for a week decent little longer crank but then it went down hill hard so I rebuilt the head again no luck and here I am frustrated and pissed I don't know if the filter head is screwed or am just not doing it right help please thanks

i would replace the filter housing as it may be cracked and i would also replace the rubber feel lines just remember some of them are molded so they dont clasp inside you dont have to use them but i would heres a good source for duramax parts

Merchant Automotive
Merchant Automotive - LB7 Pump Front Fuel Feed Hose
Merchant Automotive - Fuel Hose - LB7 Return at Injection Pump

Well its seem like when I prime the system you can hear diesel running somewhere but I don't think the filter is filling up with gas. That makes me believe one of the diaphragms inside the head is screwed

sounds like. try filling the filter up with fuel before you put it on make priming not as hard also the plastic bleeder screws are known to leak

Well I got my cousins housing off his 03 and the pump gets hard on his it started right up then after driving it I turned it off and tried to restart and a long crank was instore so I went to the purge valve by the alternator so when I press in on that there is no pressure at all so I pump the primer and a bunch of air comes out I dunno what's going on bleeder is installed correctly

don't go buy a filter housing yet. start back tracking to see where it's getting air. pull the line loose where it goes into the ficm. get some 1/2 inch fuel line and plug it on the ficm then run it to a clean bottle full of diesel. try to pump it up and see if it runs while it's in the bottle. if not your air leak is closer to the cp3. In this case take the filter outlet line off and try the same thing with the bottle, the cp3 will draw the fuel in, if there's not a leak between it. I have sen the rubber lines weather crack and let air in, fuel filters colapse, and the clamp on the steel inlet line wear a pin hole in it from vibration. you can also pressure up the tank and have someone listen for fuel to shoot out or look for a wet spot.

Ok so am going to try what u said but I had a question about the pressuring the tank I tried this once but was scared because I read somewhere you can only put 2 psi in the tank or you start messing crap up so how's a good way to do this?

im not sure about messing anything up i could be wrong, but ive had about 30psi in mine before to prim it up and it worked fine the only reason i said i would replace the filter housing is they so prone to failure and the rubber line do crack and suck air in i had a leak a while back and couldnt find it replaced all the lines problem solved not the lines on the frame only the ones in the engine bay
