Default Wireless Cards For Laptops

Hey does anyone know if there is a better long distance wirless card that can be put in a laptop (Dell) My boy is at UW Madison and has a wireless card (dw1490 minicard Broadcom) in his but says he has a hard time in one class (that he absolutely hates anyways) picking up wireless connection. Just was curious if anyone knows more about wireless than I do.Which won't take a heck of a lot I tried calling Dell but can't seem to get a English speaking support helper. Wow that just irritates the hell out of me Thanks for any help at all guy's and gals

Most likely its not a problem with his card. He's just in a class that isnt close to a router.

Have him run his system cleaners and then check windows update for a better driver. BTW- those external cards never work as good as a built in internal.

Exactly opposite of my experience. Put an external card in my brothers laptop and it ran muck better and had better range as well.

Jazz, you might have to talk to Dell on this one - they have a lot of propietary hardware.

The wireless card he has now is internal but he was telling me there is a long range one he thought that you could plug in. I will try Dell again and also have in do the system clean and look for a updated driver. thanks guys
