essentially the same motor as the 302. cant remember if the bore or stroke was different. what code is the engine? thats a good deal. in 2001 I sold an 87 ranger stx 4x4 that i put a mustang 5.0 engine (bored to a 306) with twisted wedge heads, alphabet soup cam, and a edelbrock intake for $3800. they run like a raped date with the hp and torque of a healthy small block. Now that i think back to it, I wish I didnt get rid of it.. It was a lot of fun. I wanna build another one for my boy.

btw here is info for the 289. btw it is the stroke that is different. 302 is 4.0" x 3.0". 289 is 4.0" x 2.87"

whats it doing? on the front of the engine, where the distributor is located, at the base of it is a little bolt. make sure it is tight. I have seen them loosen due to vibrations and hot/cold cycles and allowed the distributor to turn..

I also just realized we are somewhat close (well when i am stateside). once i get home next month from Iraq, if you need help feel free to ask. I am a Henry Smallblock know most all . i have had multiple ford vehicles with the 302, so i can probably help solve your problems. ALSO if the 289 ever goes bad, grab a 5.0 mustang wotor and throw it your truck with a carb for a nice boost in power and torque.

nah, drop the driveshaft drain the fluid in the trans, disconnect shift lever and kickdown and cooler lines, should be 8 or 10 bolts for the bellhousing, slide it back, then a few bolts for torque convertor, and i believe 6 bolts for flywheel, then put it all back together, and refill tranny
