Default "Service now" but no codes - any ideas

Hi everyone.

Getting a "Sevice Now see Dealer" on the overhead but no codes detected by smarty.

Any ideas?

I did the key on and off 3 times and it gives me dashed followed by done. No code there either.

About 3 weeks ago - I installed smarty ME and egr+cooler delete along with 5" turbo back. I have had no problems and about 600 miles without any codes.

I did some searching but couldn't find an answer.

Any help will be great.

Thanks
GMB

Thanks for the quick reply FarmDiesel. I hope you are right. I like my truck better now than ever.

It is kinda scary when you get the truck complaining to me without any codes though.

Yeah, I have had a DPF delete for a year now, with nothing but codes... I got smarty and unplugged the old software, deleted my EGR... And DAMN the truck runs good.

Try taking your Smarty and go through the process to show codes. When it says NO DTC and goes back to the prompt to either check for codes or delete the codes, press delete codes.

After dead batteries a couple of times, my truck had several lights come on, on the dash but no codes. I tried the above and all went back to normal.

Sure it's not just a standard maintenance-interval, need-an-oil-change light?

How do you clear the maintance interval timer?

Turn key to "Run" with engine off, hold accelerator at 100%, pump brakes three times, release accelerator, put accelerator at 100%, pump brakes three times, release accelerator pedal?

Thanks for all the responses.

Tried clearing the non-codes with the Smarty and the notifications still comes on when I start the truck.

I also tried clearing the maintenance-interval by following the instructions posted to no avail.

I am used to clearing the oil change notification after oil changes. It might be some maintenance thing though.

Is there anything I can post that will help you help me in this dignosis?

Thanks everyone

Just a little more info.

The overhead reads "system ok" for the first few seconds. When I start the truck it flashes "Service Required -> see dealer now". If I move off of this screen it acts normal and I can not return to the error screen.

Truck seems to run ok - gauges look fine, no smoke.

I looked at the connections I removed while installed the new exhaust, smarty and things and they all look ok.

Mileage is 29,645 if that helps.

Possibilities? I do not know of any custom shops here in Las Vegas.

Thanks for any advice.

I think it might be something with my install of the Smarty.

I removed the exhaust and all its connections (o2s, egt's, etc...). I left only the connection on top of the tranny plugged in. per MADS instructions.

I found another post on another site
Service required see dealer now. - Dodge Cummins Diesel Forum

It sounds like my problem - but I thought the smarty addressed this?

I am going to reach out to Rollin-smoke (place I bought the smarty, delete, and exhaust) for help.

Turn the key to the ON position, pump the accelerator 4 times to the floor. Turn the key back off. Service interval dinger should be gone. I did that when my oil change reminder came on at 7500. I'm at a hair over 27k now and it hasn't come back.

What you have is a problem with the emissions delete. my first question would be what mileage did you do the delete? have you ever had the turbo/egr cleaned before the delete? I would find a tech that can do the clean on the side and slide him a few bucks. OR you can try to reset the entire system to see if that works.

READ CAREFULLY BEFORE DOING!!!

set truck back to stock (on smarty). then REMOVE ALL BATTERY CABLES. make sure you remove them all or you will be frying modules! after ALL battery cables have been removed touch the negative cable to the positive cable, wait 5 minutes then reinstall all cables. What this does is discharge the capacitors within the ECM. It does no damage (unless you don't remove all battery cables). It also resets the ECM back to base parameters and you will have to drive the truck a few miles so that the ECM does a re-learn. After you get everything re-installed, load the smarty (ME12) and report back to us.

The following is a description of the overhead console and its functions and displays.

OPERATION

The Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) uses both non-switched and ignition switched sources of battery current so that some of its features remain operational at any time, while others may only operate with the ignition switch in the On position. When the ignition switch is turned to the On position, the EVIC display will return to the last function being displayed before the ignition was turned to the Off position.

The EVIC system is comprised of several different components that communicate over the Controller Area Network (CAN) Data Bus. If the system is inoperative a scan tool and the appropriate diagnostic information must be used to diagnose the system.

The EVIC push buttons are used to operate the different functions of the EVIC system. Pressing and releasing the MENU button (1) will change the mode displayed to one of the Personal Settings. The STEP button (2) is used to make a selection from the Personal Settings displayed at that time. Pressing and releasing the C/T (compass/temperature) button (5) will cause the EVIC to return to the compass/temperature/trip computer display mode from any other mode. From the compass/temperature/trip computer display mode the STEP button (2) is used to scroll through and make selections in the Trip Functions. Pressing and releasing the RESET button (4) resets the trip computer screen displayed at that time.

EVIC DISPLAY MODES

SYSTEM STATUS MODE
Displays warnings and user interaction messages. Critical text warnings will be displayed until the failure is corrected. Non-critical text warnings will be displayed for 60 seconds. The driver can scroll to view multiple messages by using the STEP button.
