Default cleaning the engine

The day I bout my pre owned 2007 6.7 the salesman said : "We dont wash / clean the engines anymore becasue of all the computer / electronic components that are used with newer engines. Is this guy full of sh** ?

Mine has some dirt/ dust covering it. And I try and baby these expenive toys and keep them as clean as possible. Especially an expensive Cummins.

If so / or not...Can I take it to a car wash and spray it down with soap and rinse it off thorougly. Or should I just use the High Pressure spray only with no soap.

Can these engines take the old fashion can of De-Greaser ? Or is that a no no.

well at work we use the pressure washer to clean the engines (Cummins ISX, ISM, and 8.3) which are all electronic never really had any problems now i wouldnt be putting 5k psi of water right on the ecm and conectors but you should be ok to spray them down with soap and a high pressure hose

No concerns what so ever with washing it...Maybe even a little tire shine to make it all shinny!

yeah, dealer was blowing smoke. Only thing I've done before is put a plastic bag over the alternator.

Washing the engine with steam or a pressure washer is Cummins-recommended procedure. They just tell you to not directly wash the ECM or other electronic components.

They really put a lot of effort in waterproofing all the electronics.
