This is the second time my truck has run this code(can't remember #) but it says it is overboosting. I have the stock turbo on this truck and believe the only thing that could cause this is a faulty wastegate. Is that correct? Should I just replace with OE gate or upgrade it? Only upgrades done are 4" exhaust and air dog 150. Truck is 01 qc lb 4x4. One last question I have heard of guys replacing this turbo with a hx35, is it the hx35w that I would need and would I need a boost fooler for that turbo? Thanks

 

So you have an HY and are thinking about switching to an HX? They are pretty similar as far as I know, but I've heard you can tweak more boost out of an HX and it seems to be more preffered... and you would only need a boost fooler if you tweaked something and mechanically made more boost than the 20ish psi the computer expects (and caused the overboost code)

What does it do at WOT? Does the turbo bark if you just hold it to the boards? I'm guessing you don't have a gauge

 

No gauge and I never slam it to the floor but will do so and let you know. I thought the HX wastegate was set up to allow more psi than HY which would cause an overboost issue? Thus needing a boost fooler but I don't know. Thanks
