Default Poor mileage

Hi bombers, maybe someone out there can help me out. I have a 2002 dodge ram 3500 4x2 with an automatic transmission with around 217,000 miles, the truck is bone stock and I have heard of others getting excellent diesel mileage on their cummins but mine is only giving me about 12mpg. What could be the problem, all comments and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance bombers

Condition of your transmission can do a lot to your fuel mileage. You also need to check your fuel pressure on your lift pump.

Thanks for the quick reply Luke, first off I think I might be having problems with the overdrive clutch cuz when the truck gets to around 40mph it kind of starts to stutter, and about the fuel pressure I wouldn't know how to install a fuel pressure gauge or the right pressure I should be at, once again thanks and any further input would be awesome

10 psi and above but know more then 20ish at the VP44 (injection pump) . I would look around for a good diesel shop if your not familar around the engine bay.
