Default Starter Trouble

I've got a 98.5 cummins, sometimes when I try to start it it just goes click then if I try again most of the time the starter will engage. The truck has 162,000 miles and it looks like the orginal starter, is it going bad? If so, will I be better off o get a new starter or get it rebuilt? Thanks all Boondockers

first off check the batterys and connections, if they are all good check you starter relay, its in you fuse panel under the hood they are just a regular looking relay, if they are good then the chances are the starter is bad, its cheaper to get one rebuilt if you can but the fastest is buy a new one

It's sounds like the starter contacts. If so it's a pretty easy job to rebuild yourself
Maybe this will help http://www.fostertruck.com/dodge/default.htm
