Start at the bulbs, then work your way to the fuse box.

Between the fuse and reverse lights is a switch in your transmission. When the shift linkage goes into R, it allows power to run back to the light bulbs. Somewhere along the way you have a short.

ive changed the bulbs, and redid the trailer mate harness blocks, they were all corroded. so idt my problem is there, in the day light tommorrow if its not raining ill start to follow the wires off the reverse switch in trans. is it possible that the switch is bad, and which plug is it on the trans?

It is going to be the neutral safety switch which controls the reverse lights.

i just looked with the flash light, theres 3 plugs from what i could see the one furthest to the back with 2 wires seems like it would be the reverse one. im going to follow it up tommorrow.

ok mint. if everything checks out good, then where should i look? also seeing where the switch is just completing a circuit, i dont see how it could go bad. if it had multiple wires then i would say it could be sending a bad signal. if that makes sense.
