Default Emmission test went bad

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to put the star wheel and smoke screw back to stock. My truck failed Ontarios Drive Clean test today. It is a 97 3500 Dodge with a 12 valve Cunnins and a P 7100 pump all is stock including the timing but last summer I was on this site and ended up turning the star wheel and the AFC. the truck runs better this way but it has some black smoke when I shove my foot into it. Apairently this isnt within the limmits of thier test.

theres 2screws in the back of the AFC housing. take thoses 2screws out and turn the screw pretty much all the way but do not take it all the way out tho.

The plug ontop of the afc houses the star wheel. Turn it towards you (drivers side fender) and that will control low boost fuel IE no smoke

So should I do both I allready turned the star wheel twenty clicks towars the left fender and backed the screw out about a turn and a half.Still gives a pretty good puff of black when it gets under boost. I need this thing to clear up these tests are 100 bucks a crack and there is no one around with a machine to test opasity other than hooked up to the "Drive Cleen".

That sucks man the guy down the street from me doesnt check the smoke but you can turn the smoke screw all the way until you cant feel the spring hitting it anymore and just turn it in a little so its barely touching than bring the starwheel all the way to the cab and bring it forward a few turns should be good, than put it back after the test

They don't run it on a dyno but with trucks over 10,000 lbs they put a probe in the tail pipe and snap the throtle to the governer like a 10-12 times and the machine gives an average of all snaps. If it was under 10,000 all they do is look and report a visual inspection. I am going to crank the star wheel and the other screw toward the cab as far as I can and hope it has enough power to haul itself back down to get tested this aft. Thanks for the help wish me luck.

back the smoke screw all the way out but have it enough to touch the diaphram. and that should fix your problem
