Default Gearing too SLOW!!!!!

I have a 96 cummins 5 speed. It has a dana 70 rear with posi and 4:10 gearing. I do a lot of faster speeds so the 4:10s are not cutting it for me. at 60 im at 2000 rpms. I need bigger tires so that will help. I want to switch gears and coming up with very little. I would rather keep my axles in the truck and just switch the gearing to 3:55s or faster. wanna keep the truck posi. If anyone has a link to these gear kits let me know. I want 3:55 or faster. wanna have my rpms at 1600-1800 at 70. Anything will help!

Look at summit racing. This link is for 3.54:1 gears for the Dana 70

Stock tires are not going to get you to 1600-1800 at 70 closer to 1900 with 3.54 ratio
What size tires are you going too?

here in wv this is what guys do that want different gears. they talk to my buddy who has a performance shop. he keeps a record of what they want. when he finds another guy that wants something different he gets them both in the shop and does the swap while checking everything out. somebody may come in with 4.10 and leave with 3.55s. you might find your local performance and check this out

Awesome, thanks for the link. Ya I have small 245 70 16s. too small but tires are like new. lookin to get some 285s or 33s and some after market rims. Im in Maine. just bought the truck and drove 4 hours home at 65 at 2100ish. sloooow. I will check some places and see if they do the swaps like that. my axles only have 130k on them. I wouldn't want to swap for axles gearing with 400 k you know.

Awesome thanks. Im sure they make a dana 60 gear kit for my front axle to. do they make any speed faster then 3:54s? Some of the first gens had 3:10s or close to that I believe. Also would the gear ring and pinion be all I need for the kit? would I still have posi? thanks again

you can get aftermarket gears but stock they didnt make them so a swap would be hard to do.

you will be looking at at least $1000 to have a shop switch gears for you. i just swapped gears in an 80 and it was right at $1100 for them to do it. the cheapest way to change gears is buy the axles with the gears you want in them already. i have a d70 out of my 95 with 64xxx miles 3.54 gears for sale for $350 if you are interested. you will gain about 15mph at the same rpm's with 3.54's.
