Default 22.5 with 3:55 gear bad or good idea??

i have a 1997 12valve 2 wheel drive 3500 and was thinking of putting the 22.5 on this truck to tow a big trailer with weekly maybe not a great idae alot of people on here say no don;t do and alot of people say go for it ???
very hard to find out what it would do to my old truck

i am now thinking not such a great idea due to i have 3.55 gears and from what i was told those tires won;t even work for ten miles running 255/70 22.5 with my 3:55 gears
i had read up on alot of this and some people have ran those 22.5 tires with 3:55 gears but could not get up to speed on the highway at all
one other guy said the rear end would fall apart with in ten miles pulling my big trailer any input on this info??????

Shouldn't be too bad... it compares to a 35" tire... it's about 1" taller...

I wish i had 3.55 with my 35" to be honest...

let me say this before someone ask why??
see i own a cabover kw with a 53 ft 15 horse tralier and for the last two years it has had just 8 or 9 horses weekly in it for the trip i run,, so i saw what other companys started doing and i went out and got a 40 ft 9 horse with a dodge cummins to save on all things insure?? is so much less and fuel should be much less ,, and cost to run this rig is just less . so that how i got to where i'm at now just trying to fix some some things and get those wheels making me money

i ran 22.5's on my 01 3500 with 3.55's and 6spd it was all right for pulling light loads but towing anything more then 12000 lbs was working it harder then i really like to and they blew fuel millage out the door ... they are all of double the weight of a normal 35" tire ..... but they do look badass

auto or manual? i just swaped 4.10's from my original 3.54's huge difference in towing. way less smoke one of the best things i have done to the truck thus far. you can get away with a taller heavier tire with a manual tranny because you have 2 gears that are lower than an autos 1st gear. if you are planning on pulling this loaded 40 footer than i would HIGHLY recommend 4.10 gears. you wont be pulling that thing over 65mph anyways no need to do 120.

I had a 06 Dodge 3500 6 speed manual. I liked the 22.5 for towing, and I towed in the 38 to 42K range.

The bad is the tires are hard on the front end. The money I saved on tires I spent on ball joints. I usually would wear out a set of tires at 18,000 miles on the 22.5's when I had about 70,000 miles on them the sumotomo tires were down to there wear bars.

My overall opinion is they are not going to save you money, and I wouldn't go with them if you have 3.55 gears.

I think 19.5's would be a better fit.

I wouldn't even use 3.73's W/ 22.5 and almost a 37" tall tire for towing.
