1993 VW Eurovan MV Gas to Diesel conversion
 

HI,

We are a family of 9. We are looking for 1998-2001 TDI Golf or Jetta/Passat Wagon. We have a 1996 VW Passat TDI wagon with 335,000. We have two [2] 1993 VW Eurovans MV.


Can anyone do a 1.9 4 cyl or 2.5 5 cyl conversion?

Just found this site. Did anyone ever answer your post about installing a diesel in a '93 Eurovan? We just replaced the 2.5L gas engine and automatic with a 2.4L non-turbo and 5 speed. Bought the engine on Ebay Germany and had it shipped. Bought the trans from a local salvage yard. Really not too hard to swap. Still have A/C. Only things not working are the tach and cruise control. Haven't really tried to sort the cruise yet. The 2.4 is only about 77 hp so not much power but it will hit 80 mph and cruise at 70 (although at fairly high rpm). Went from 18 mpg with the gasser/AT to 30 mpg. If I were to do it again I'd put in a 1.9L TDI from a Jetta or Golf - either an early TDI or a newer one with an injection pump converted to be purely mechanical to avoid the computer.

In any case, I'm very happy to finally have a diesel EV. Should be good for another 17 years! I think it was worth the effort and expense.
