TDI Performance

I have an 06 Jetta TDI and have some questions about performance mods. I want to put a box and some injectors in it. But not sure about what the ones Ive seen exactly control. Are they timing, pressure or what. The only companies Ive seen that make them are Van Aaken and Piers and there isnt too much info on either of their sites. Id also like to get some exhaust bent for it as well, what size pipe would be the best to go with. I was thinking 2.5 or 3 inch straight pipe. What kind of fueling concerns are there with these little engines, will I need to upgrade my pump once I starting modding? I plan on getting gauges for it soon so that I can monitor my EGT and boost. At what egt should i keep it under and at what boost level will it need studs? An upgraded turbo is in the plans but thats later down the road. Is it worth it to put in a FMIC or will the side mount suffice. Im not against throwing some WM in it to keep it cool if I have to. Sorry for so many questions, just trying to get as much info as I can.

We deal with Diesel Tuning and they are a timing, fueling box. Very nice - say good bye to the flat spot in the throttle at 3000 RPM.

2.5" works and 3" is a bit tight but it works ok if the bends are right. The TDi PD pump in your car is good and doesn't need any upgrading. The boost doesn't really like to be pushed above 22 pounds with a stock turbo. Over that you'll need studs and gaskets for sure. There isn't lots of detail on what the EGT's would be or should be on these motors since they don't get as bombed as the trucks do but staying under 700 F is probably a good thing. I don't monitor EGT on my car - just boost. This can be controlled with water injection as well to lower those temps but most guys don't look at that.

FMIC options are not plenty but they are there and should always be considered. I would do this before the turbo but looking at them together is a good idea.

We do lots of cars and if we can suggest on more thing you should put a skid plate under it and for now a straight pipe will work wonders until you start spending money...

If I can help let me know.

Thanks for the info. Im going to talk to a local guy about bending up some 2.5 pipe for me this weekend. I know what you mean by the 3k dead spot. I certainly wanna get rid of that. I keep thinking the pedal can go down further once I hit that sluggish rpm range.

yeah I looked around over there. Took me awhile to figure out all the acronyms they use over there. I speak big diesel still trying to figure out the little diesel slang. Just figured I would post here where I already understand people. But thanks for the tip bud.

Getting the car chiptuned will make a huge difference, stay clear of the powerboxes, that is usualy just a cheap resistor embedded in resin sold at a high price.

Do yourself a favor and do the EGR delete too!

Personally, I would not. This is about the most ill advised mod you can do on these little cars. The computers are not nice to the owner with that "problem".

Of course this is my opinion and my experience with VAG-COM.

Hello,
I just picked up a used 2000 tdi beetle and I am having an issue with it as the engine seems to flatten out if the thottle is pushed to far going up hill or on the flat, but if it isn't to radical the throttle seems to be ok up to 90 mph. Looking to pick up a obd ll to fit my laptop. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
