Welcome Danny,
Hmm, you can turn up the pump a bit.
Do you have the engine with 54hp?
They don't have hydraulic valve tappets, so you have to adjust them every 20.000km
don't forget to replace the timing belt every 100.000km.

Addding a turbo is difficult because, you don't have oil jets to cool the piston underside as the engine with the turbo.
The 1.6 is known to be very reliable. the Jetta I had made it to 400.000- and i kicked because I was tired of it.
Make sure you don't overheat it. Cracks will develop between the intake and outlet valve.
But they aren't dangerous as long they won't get bigger than 1.6mm( in other words most of the heads have cracks...)

On my 1981 Rabbit pickup, I first installed a turbodiesel 1.6. There are lots around, and they make a huge difference (They're all bolt-in). Then I got greedy and installed a race-tuned 2 liter turbodiesel. The torque is intoxicating.
