Sooted up intake? how do I know?

bone stock 2000 tdi 114,xxx miles. How do I know if the intake is sooted up? its getting ~41mpgmostly highway 65-75mph

I would hate to do all that work just to see a clean intake. Can i inspect before removal?

thanks

Mine was running like crap, 98 tdi. No power when going.
changed air flow meter. Cleaned intake, and turbo cooler.
Runs better. Mine has 182 on the od. One dirty job.

at 114k miles you intake is clogged. I'd bet there is about a 1/2" diameter hole in the soot/carbon build up that the motor is breathing through.

This was at 100k afte having my EGR duty cycle turned down at 4k miles

I also gave the car regular Italian tune-ups:choochoo:

I have a 98 with 182.000 on it.
Started loosing power. cleaned intake,
new n75 valve and vacuum lines.
found a broken line in ecu.
Runs good again.
