Car Shoppin'
I know that diesels used to be a pain to start in the cold (trucks still can be), etc...but is it still like that. Possum is trying to talk me into getting the diesel version, but I'm not sold...Although I do like the prospects of mods...:sen:

I would like to hear that response as well. They have to be better then they were. I had an 81 VW rabbit that felt like paint mixer for the first 5 minutes after starting in cold weather.
those jettas seem like real nice cars |
A girl I work with has one as a daily driver and we have some of the harshest conditions for winter and hard starts and she has no issues at all. Needs to be plugged in overnight, but sits outside all day at work no problem! Wicked fuel mileage...as high as 65mpg and 40ish running it hard!
|
Oh yea, thats Canada by the way...-40C is not uncommon in the winter (not for long thank goodness). It is very smooth and unbelieveably quiet....No more of the old paint shaker issues associated with the old VW's....
She is a real bitch and her boyfriend/fiance bought her personalized plates for x-mas... SWRCRWT...SOUR CROUT....we bug her that it reads Sewer Crotch! lol |
lmao"give:
|
We would never say that but she is the nastiest chick I have ever met....a real piece of work! And for whatever reason, nobody will fire her...she is great at her job, just shouldnt be allowed to interact with humans....:ph:
|
Well, that sounds interesting...LOL...yeah...I just don't wanna have to fool with plugging it in and worrying when it does get cold. BUT...is there much difference in power, maintenance? Is it more difficult for just anyone to work on more expensive for parts, etc.?
|
we dont get that cold in ky so it wont have to be plugged in
come on get the diesel |
we'll see...i wanna try to go look at them soon down at don jacobs in lex.
|
There will be alot bigger selection in the diesel lineup soon. Jeep already has two SUVs out with a CRD under the hood. The Liberty and the Grand Cherokee.
|
She doesnt plug it in until the weather is below -20C so this is only a few days during the winter. Power is great, tons of passing power, I was quite suprised...she took me for a drive, and it will keep up with and maybe outrun a CRD in stock form, while getting 2-3 times the mileage...super warranty so maintenance wasnt anything she was concerned with...she leases them and turns them back before the warranty is up...after that I cant see it being worse than other VW parts...
|
If you are in KY...I cant see you ever having to plug it in....unless you come north to visit us Canucks...
|
Synthetic oil helps a lot in the winter time...
|
lets hope she buys a diesel:sen:

yeah, maybe i can talk her into that so she can have the room she wants to haul stuff
|
Buy the diesel Jetta Whitney, I'm trying to get Katie to buy one but she wants a D-Max. Told her if her head gets any bigger she wont fit in the house and getting a D-Max will only inflate it more.lol

Well, in my job I have a lot of stuff and will have (on occasion) people to haul to business meetings...but I'm 23, just out of college...and want to celebrate by buying something cool...but not retardedly impractical. But OMG, I just looked up the VW Eos...on KBB.com...I may be in loooooove...

Back to the car (TDI) and the cold...
We bought ours when we lived in AB. Only when it was -35 outside was there ever a need to plug it in. Otherwise, started up right away. Great car. Put winter tires on it and it will drive better than nearly every sport-ute out there in crappy weather. In good weather, getting 55+ MPG is always a good thing. |
she bought a jetta but it aint a diesel, she said the $6000 difference was to much. She is currently getting 28-32 mpg.
I was hopping for a diesel but hey. |
im only going to have it maybe 5 years, so i doubt ill make up the difference...i really like it tho...i know possum wanted a jetta, but the one i got was pretty, wayy better mpg than my eclipse, and it gets me where i need to go...im really happy with it. in the meantime, ill let him play with the diesels and be content to be a passenger.
|
we could have bombed the little diesel and raced with it when u were done with it
|
didn't really think about it...i can race this one...haha
guess im used to (and like) having a trade in |
It is a very nice looking little car from the pic I've seen. So you still likeing it.
