2000 vw golf tdi start and shut off

I have a 2000 golf tdi. the car was driving around just fine. i parked it overnight in my garage and in the morning, getting ready to leave it would not start and stay running. It will start almost immediatly but then it will shut right back off within 3-5 seconds. As i turn the key on, and the instrument cluster does its bulb check, the immobilizer light comes on but then goes off. leading me that the problem is somewhere else and not in the immobilizer system. I have tried to hook onto the car with my snap-on verus. It tells me that there is no communication. I cant even connect to the abs system or anything! I have checked the wires for the DLC connector and i did have battery power on the k-line. so i disconnected it. Still nothing. I just recently put in another instrument cluster and nothing changes. I have unplugged all of the other modules ie: air bag control module, transmission control module, and the abs control module. Still nothing changes. when i first started looking at the car, i found that the auxillary relay panel was melted and much of the wires were black. I replaced the relay panel along with all new ends on the wires. The car still acts the same. I am at a loss. If anybody has any direction to tell me to go that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
John.
