8500lbs Class

Is the 8500lb class a thing of the past or what? I've been looking at places to pull over the summer but all the classes cut off at 8000lbs... I cant make 8000lbs in a 1st Gen Cummins that almost weighs 8500lbs without me in it :dang:.. Any thoughts?

that must be a monster 1st gen to weight that much :tu: ... were about in PA are you? the pulling org aroun southern PA that I run with runs 8500lbs stock charger class.

i never saw a 1st gen weigh that much. what does it have that makes it so heavy. we have some common rail trucks that have a hard time makin our 8000 lb class. my 97 weighs in at about 7300 without weights.:hellox:

yeah really :scare2:

my 1993 club cab dually would barely tip the scales at 6500lbs with a full tank.

My dually extended cab 4x4 is 8020 lbs loaded with me in it and almost a full tank...that must be a stout truck. Maybe try a different scale...:humm:

I broke 8600 in my 99 Quad cab short bed.... But that was after I hit the scales at the coal yard with just over 1 ton in the bed. :w2:

Are you sure? Not calling you out, maybe its your scale but its a 2500 8800 GVWR... Diesel is 7.15 #/gallon. Thats about 250# for 35 gallons. Naked (no tool boxes etc) that means you could only carry 800#s of cargo before you are over the trucks limit. A few grown adults and thats it... I cross the scales all the time at the scrap yard, coal yard, garbage dump and stone docks and every time I ring in around 6600. Its strange your truck would weigh 2200# more then my truck... Thats A LOT! Hell thats like a Prius or Fiat!

Budgreen 03-02-2012 07:10 AM

I never understood it either.. I cross scales fairly regularly in my trucks and every time I see that 6600-6800 number come up on the display I can't help but wonder how all these people have trucks that weigh a ton or so more than mine with half a tank of fuel and nothing else..

who would want an 8600gvr truck that weighs in that much empty?

my current chevy duramax 2500HD ECSB weights beween 6600 and 6800 empty and has a GVW of 9200 or something like that (over the std 2500 GVW prolly the govt rating since thats where the truck came from) so that leaves me quite a bit of room to load it up. :tu:

my reg cab long bed 4x4 1994 cummins + 225lbs driver full tank crosses the scales at 6300lbs
