Kill switch for VP44 truck

Needing to put a kill switch out the back of my truck for sled pulling. Anybody ever done this on a VP44 truck?? Whats the best way to do it, and what wires to cut or tap into?

I never could get a good answer for an electrical kill switch. Everyone recommended a guillotine.

for sled pullin we use air shut down.

Drop fuel pressure :tu: no seriously get a air shut off. You could wire it but you will run into problems in the long run atleast we did on my friends. :scare2:

No you can do it very easliy, I have an electric kill on my truck for my VP44...I bought the relay and kill from EEP, but this is how it works, You tap in to the Black with tan stripe wire on the back of the VP44's main harness, cut that wire in half, recommended that you dont make the cut too close to the back of the VP connecter, so that way if you ever want to remove it you have room to do so. You will need a relay, one such as a windshield wiper realy, Wires that extend from the bottom of the relay consist of a Green wire, a Black wire, a Red Wire, and a White wire, the Green wire connects to cut ground wire closest to the pump connector, the black wire connects to the other half of the cut wire, (side closest too the ECM), Red wire get connected to a constant 12v source, (in my case the hot going into the fuse box), The white wire will be extended to the rear of the truck and hooked to the "kill switch" which mine is really just a 4wheeler style teather, It consists of a two pin connection, when you pull the teather, it disconnects the ground wire at the pump killing the power to the VP, the second wire out ot the back of the "kills switch" will need to be grounded at the back of the truck. Hope this helps, if you would like to see pics of this you can PM me and i can try and get them to you. Also you can contact Enterprise Engine Performance 1-740-246-6329 not sure if they stock the kill switch but they can get them, they are about $25 -$40...

Well, i got antzy last night and thats kinda what i did. I cut the ground wire to the injection pump (black and tan wire) and wired it into an extension cord and ran it to the back and put a plug in in it with an eye bolt sticking out of the other end and it works great to kill power to the VP:tu: I know it would not shut it down in the case of an engine runaway, but i was jus needin somethin so they will let me run at the local pulls. Thanks to j hlad for all the information tho.

Yeah, no problem, but yes it would shut it down in case of a runaway, do to the fact that it kills the fuel to the truck...it would still run for a few seconds, but would run out of existing fuel then die...but glad that you got it hooked up!:tu:

yes it would stop the eng. unless the turbo let go and oil keep it running.
