Interested In Pulling

I've always been wanting to pull but I'm afraid of busting things up. What are some things on the 06's that should be beefed up before pulling? Not looking to get serious YET. I have a tst and SBC 3600. By next spring i'll have ladder bars and a new turbo (super b or something II). what else should i do?

truck

Spend your $$ on an old 12 valve. Find a farm truck with 500,000. I bought a 97 with 200,000 + and the motor was already built and price was just about right..

if its your only vehicle to drive, look for an old 12 valve, if not, be prepared for a money pit usually, some guys never break anything, others cant keep parts to save their lives.

If you want to pull the sled and dont want to break anything do this.
1 dont worry about adding weight to make the 8000lb max limit.
2 dont build your motor over 475-500 hp.
3 near end of pull when the sled stops you let off the go pedel.
4 if the truck starts to bounce let off the go petel.
5 You can feel your truck while pulling and have about 90% control of breaking.
6 Dont go with overly aggesive tire.
7 Try to pull on a loose track.

Also check your local rules before adding things like a turbo and build your truck to the lowest hp class first.

Basically what he said. Don't get big power. Big power+traction(or intermittant traction)= broken parts. Keep it from hopping, and stay in a class where you can actually be competitive. I would think with your clutch, the TST, and some ladder bars you should be able to have some fun with it. If you get really hooked (no pun intended), then save your money for an old 12v and get into it with both feet.

My Motto: It's not if your going to break, but when :)

The list above will lessen your odds, but its all a gamble.
