turbos for 2.6 street legal diesel class

Im trying to find the best set-up for my truck for pulling season this year.... any opinion and options will be thankful...

Chvyrkr 12-21-2009 11:42 PM

S365, S465, S480 with a custom cover to meet 2.6 tech. There are tons of options. More for 5.9's than mine. I'm gonna have something like an S480 built with a 2.6 cover (not plug) for my PSD this year.

Your best bet is to probably give somebody like engineered diesel, or a turbo building sponsor on here, a call. And tell 'em what fuel you're plannin on pushing through it, the RPM's range you'll be in, and they'll know absolutely which turbo would best fit your application.

dieseljunky 12-22-2009 07:50 PM

yea alright well thanks for the advise.. anything is helpful

Sorry I can't give better any better info. 7.3 turbo's don't translate to 5.9 very well. It's mostly a matter of choosin the injector that will provide the power you're after, and matching the air to it. Engineered shoud be able to provide the perfect set up for you. It's one of the things they're good at.

I think i would call elite diesel or swamps diesel, they both deal mainly with the powerstroke, they could probsbly send you in the right derection.

He's the 5.9 guy, that's why I recommended Engineered Diesel.

well i kinda screwed that up, helps to read i guess. ED makes a very good turbo, highly recomend giving them a chance.

Lol, yes they do. For that matter, I might have 'em put mine together.

If its just for sled pulling i would go with a s400. I still need to street my truck and pull a trailer and another truck to pulls so i stayed with a s366/73/.91 from engineered diesel. If i didnt pull a trailer i would have went with a s465.

Also a very good turb, even in stock for, but ED can do their little tricks and it would be even better!!:tu:

Depending on the fuel you're plannin to push, you can even do something like S480 with a 2.6 machined cover. Get a little more air and still tech 2.6 class.

I dont understand why guys run those big charges with a 2.6 cover. Most places they have a rule saying compressor must protrude into the inducer. So you would have to have the compressor wheel clipped and that doesnt help efficiency of the turbo and would run better with a smaller turbo.

RSWORDS 01-06-2010 07:29 PM

Seems to work just fine for some of teh hotter running trucks out there.

In the PSD world it's a much better option than runnin in a 2.8 or 3.0 class. We don't have the RPM to compete there usually. A few trucks do, but you wouldn't wanna see their credit card statements.

And, it's a "custom" cover and wheel for the most part. And no fool built it. We just can't get enough air out of a 66 or smaller to do much of anything.

Talk to a lot of customturbo places. St Joseph diesel I believe is a sponsor on here and can help you out as well. Borg Warner turbos are nice frames to start with and billet holsetbwheels are good too. Nothing off the shelf will be perfect.

i appreciate all of u guys advise and opinions... thanks guys

im getting a custom deal from enterprise engine on mine ...... looking at the prices they are a tad bit cheaper and a small sponsorship is possible along with a shop near by...

Chris just finished my 2.6 charger two weeks ago, he does very nice work

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

here is the NADM turbo rule for the 2.6 class 2010

Turbocharger: The vehicle is limited to a single turbocharger; the inducer bore on the compressor housing may be 2.6”. The inlet will be measured using a 2.65-inch plug or internal calipers. Bushing from any larger turbo size down to a 2.6 turbo is PROHIBITED. A stock map width enhancement (MWE) groove is allowed. No MWE groove will be allowed that has a width greater than 1/4 inch. All provisions allowing air to the wheel other than via the bore and the MWE groove are prohibited. 6.4 liter Powerstroke engines may utilize the factory twin-turbo configuration.
