Caltracs?

We all know how much a good set of tracton bars help a puller but Has anyone ever run Caltracs?

AHolt 08-16-2009 05:13 PM

If your going to drag it, Caltracs work.
For pulling I think you need a longer
set of bars.

2001shrtbedcummins 08-16-2009 05:53 PM

Yea, caltracs won't cut it for pulling.

RSWORDS 08-16-2009 06:55 PM

Talking with the Caltrac guys he said alot of teh west coast guys are using them.

Red_Rattler 08-16-2009 08:02 PM

But your from the east coast Bobby, so they won't work... :D

browning1 08-17-2009 08:26 PM

I would go with at least 60inch long bars.

Wicked_Intentions 09-16-2009 08:44 PM

Here you go an east coast truck w/ caltracs. He pulled 321.xx, only reason he stopped was blew an intercooler boot.

I dont see why they would not work.

12vcummins96 10-15-2009 08:38 PM

everybody has an opinion run what u think bobby

TrailerproPop 11-04-2009 02:51 PM

We have used them for 4 years, never hop. (well, almost never)
The last 2 years, we were very competitive in 2.6 class.

RSWORDS 11-05-2009 06:16 PM

My thing is they dont work like a traditional set of traction bars.

Pyro690 11-07-2009 11:32 PM

Try them. I was told longer is better, but anything that will hold your axle out of hop is what most pullers need. I have seen 60 inch bars let the wheels hop on black dirt but there isn't much that will help on that.:c:

I thought about a set of these once I get the my Dana 80 bolted under my 2nd gen......

On a traditional bar setup longer is better, The caltracs use a differnet design, something about the pyhsics of it... Just saying what teh guys at Caltrac said...

I run a set of homemade Caltracs on a 340 Plymouth 1/4 mile car and they are the best mod I ever made to that car. The thing hooks like the rear tires are glued to the pavement. Here's the deal, don't be fooled by the first pic of an old slapper bar:

Traction

I almost put a set on the 1st Gen but decided to try something different, just for the hell of it. If anyone has any actual reasons besides "I heard..." or their "opinion," let's hear it. They are an excellent, effective means of controlling axle wrap in a leaf spring rear suspension. Better by far than 90+% of the bolt on solid I-don't-care-how-long-they-are POS bars I see on alot of trucks.

RSWORDS 11-08-2009 02:28 PM

Also my basic knowledge of physics (high school) leads me to believe that a long set of trditional style bars will lift the front end of teh truck. In pulling this is something you do not want.
