thinking about entering pull this weeked

Well guys, as the title says, im thinking about entering a pull this weekend. The only issue im having is the fact id be pulling on my weak stock clutch. Would i totally grenade my clutch trying to pull a 9K lb sled or do you think it would make it through. I am right now, as i tpye this, looking at SBC DD clutches. I had originally planned on an OFE, but i might try to go to more truck pulls and enter them so im now looking into their DD line. Please tell me which clutch would suit me best for drag racing AND sled pulling.

ANyway, back on topic, should i even attempt to pull the sled this weekend or not risk it and wait for a DD clutch

If you got the money for a new clutch go for it, sounds like a blast:up:

What kind of pulls do you all have out that way that the sled is only 9K???

I would recommend a DD clutch for both drag racing and sled pulling. You can burn on it longer for pulling and launch in 3rd gear for drag racing. I guess it depends on how serious you are and how much fuel and air you have.

Do it if you got the $$$ for a new clutch and can live without your truck until you could get the new one installed.

I would say don't do it on your stocker, unless you got a new clutch sitting at home waiting for you. Cause knowing my luck if it were my truck, it'd go kerboom!

As for a clutch that does both your looking at the 12cb for material and probably the 3850 pressure plate.

CumminsCrazed 06-21-2007 05:31 PM

thats what i was thinking, anyone got a price on one of those babies????

IM assuming its this clutch here....

SBC DD 3850 Street Comp 12 CB Lever type pressure plate with heavy increase in pedal pressure, 12 ceramic buttons per side of disc, 750 hp (good for sled pulling)
WILL require hydraulic upgrade

ndurbin 06-21-2007 05:38 PM

yes sir that be the one

CumminsCrazed 06-21-2007 05:48 PM

whats one of those bad boys run for price....

Uncle Bubba 06-21-2007 05:58 PM

When I was dealing with SBC he didn't reccomend any of his clutches for sled pulling. He wouldn't warranty them either. He was pissed that day cause some guy was tryin to take him for a clutch. Blew it pullin and tried to deny it. He said he probably would have taken care of the guy if he hadn't lied to him about it.

Bein a young guy, just don't let your enthusiasm overide your wallet by to much. You run out of money you may find yourself run out of truck. This stuff is expensive and the repairs never run out.

with my last truck (99 dodge cummins 5 speed) i pulled it once with the stock clutch and it done fine, just pull in 4lo and 3rd and dont try to slip it much, try to get off of it quick, but without just dumping it because that could cause the truck to start hopping and you dont want that

as for a new clutch i really like the 3600 12cb that i've got i think that would be your best bet, i really dont think that you need the extra holding capacity of the 3850 and the only thing that is different with it is the pressure plate, my 3600 is holding 4lo-4th and 4hi-2nd launches great

cool, ive also heard DD clutches are harder to shift fast when drag racing, any truth to that because i want to drag it some as well, but not have to granny shift it if at all possible

cummin_un_glued 06-21-2007 10:41 PM

i dont know about the drag racing, i've been to the track with mine and i didnt notice it being any harder to shift fast then it was with the stock clutch, now my shifting skills need work but i still managed a 15.02 1/4mile @ 93 mph and a buddy of mine ran a 14.10 with his truck and he has the same clutch so i'd say once you got used to it, that you wont have any problems shifting it at the track

CumminsCrazed 06-21-2007 11:52 PM

ok...now i just need to find the mega bucks to install and buy it!!!!
