5er plug location

Where does everyone with a fifth wheel or gooseneck hitch prefer their trailer plug?
I have never seen one anywhere other than behind the rear driver's wheel, but my new reese 18K fifth wheel hitch came with the plug and the instructions want you to put it in front of the wheel so you can't get crushed if something happens and the trailer falls. Any input?

My 5ver plugs in the stock location on my Chevy under the bumper and I pull my camper OFTEN. Never had any issues. Just inside the bed on the drivers side is also a great place.:tu:

A couple of reasons I don't like to drape it over the tailgate. 1. I got a few scratches on the dodge's tailgate. 2. My cousin ripped three cords (plenty long) off before he put one in bed. I've hardly heard of this happening other than him.
i'm sure i'll just put it in the back, I just was wondering if anyone ever put it elsewhere.

I have one in front of the drivers wheel well, I like it easy to put in and doesn't snag. I would do it again.

Mine is mounted on the driver's side inside the bed about 6 inches below the rail near the tailgate.

Ive had them
behind the wheelwell,
in front of the wheelwell (its hard to hook up without belt buckle scratching paint)
below the bumper,
mounted below the surface of a flatbed(not smart collected to much moisture/ not my idea)
and also mounted on the back of my flatbed .

I think it boils down to personal preferance and also where it is easy to mount and easy to service if needed

I have installed two 18K hitches in my duelly trucks and I placed both just in front of the left rear wheel. On the Dodges there is a conviently located flat spot. It works well for me but I did it for ease of connection not as a saftey feature. Not sure if it would help if the trailer comes loose anyway.

It doesn't matter where you put your plug, if the trailer becomes un hitched, having your trailer lights and brakes working is the last of your worries.:scare2:

^^ i have mine on the drivers side inside the bed pretty close to the back. and if i have to plug in under the bumper i run the cord between the tailgate and bed. never had a problem.
