How much to charge
 

I am going to be going to pick up a car for my friend's girlfriend's son. I am going to get paid for the job but I want to make it fair. It's going to be about 4.5-5 hours each way. I can get paid two ways. They cover fuel, food and give me some cash ($100) or we do it based per mile. How much do you guys that haul charge per mile? I want to be fair but I am not going to lose money and put unnecessary wear and tear on my truck and trailer.

Here is what I would do which is figure how much it costs you to drive one mile you can do this by taking the price for 1gal of fuel divided by your miles per gallon. This is where you start to break even.

So lets say it would cost you $.15 to drive one mile. Also assuming your on the interstate for those 4.5 - 5 hours is about 340 miles. so that is $51 to drive one way now what you figure is food cost and for me i would say an extra 100 to 200 bucks for things like wear on the vehicle. More importantly it comes down to how fair you want it to be and it can be tough to decide if your too cheap or too expensive go with your gut feeling.

Also dont forget to put your own numbers in their those are all theoretical numbers. :tu:

If you are doing this for a friend, I would say do it for food and fuel. And make sure they understand your not responsible for any damage to the car in-case you get in a accident.

Let them cover all the expenses and agree on not a Penney more until the car is unloaded and handed over to them and they can pay you whatever they think is fair.

I have found that most people will pay more then you would have asked for if you leave it up to them because they are scared they will cheat ya.

more importantly here. If you have problems and somethin get's damaged including your truck trailer or they're car and anything is mentioned by anybody during the investigation that you were doing this for profit your insurance is null and void. Is not required to cover anything. If your doing it out of the kindness of your heart then your safe. I never agree upon or accept any form of payment until the loaded is safely away from my truck and trailer.

The guy is one of my best friends and if ti was for him personally I wouldn't charge him anything but fuel and really I wouldn't even have to charge so to speak he would offer it. Thanks guys. We handle it in the same way over here. Usually there is no need of charging someone. They are happy to have been helped out and know how much it is worth to them. It covers more than you need for gas and food.
But as always it depends...:c:

id go fuel and food and then see if they offer anymore for doin the job for em. thats the best way i found but i usually end up gettin nothin just a thanks which is all that really matters to me

carma, do fuel and food do for almost nothin be a good friend it will come back on ya one day some one will help you out when you desperitly need it believe me.

If this was for my friend it would be for free....no question about it. But it's not it's for his GF's moron kid. This is the 4th live in GF he has had this year and her kid is a piece of work so that's the ONLY reason why the charge thing came up and HE (my friend) is the one that brought up about making sure I charge her son. I guess i didn't make it that clear in the begining. :c:

$1.85 per mile plus 17% for fuel. If it's a friend, food and fuel.
