A Little Bounce

2006 Dodge 2500 Regular Bed 2WD- 5.9 Cummins Engine - Bought new 33' TT, only about 7500 lbs of weight and I am using Reese Weight Distributing setup. Something isn't just right because I get a little bit of a bouncy ride at times. The front of the truch feels a little light. I have the chains at 5 links and the truck and trailer look level. I previously had a Motorhome, so I'm new at towing a trailer. What am I doing wrong or is a little bit of up and down normal?

um i dont use weight distrubuting stuff, but i do level off trailers pretty good, and I think it is normal to feel a little light sometimes. i pull all kinds of lifts around, they range from 4,000 up to 6,500 pounds, on a standred pequa deck-over trailer. towin aint always a comfortable ride. i have noticed at higher speeds on flat ground that the front end feels a little loose. but stop and go can just be a little bumpy. this is just my experiance with towing, BUT i KNOW there are a lot of guys that know a thing or two on here somewhere:w2::w2:

a little bouncy is ok, it is a short truck with a long trailer, would't worry much but if it bothers you too much think about air bags or some sort of helper spring. GL:pca1:

At 7500 lbs. thats not a lot of weight but 33ft long your probably feeling more of a jerking than a bouncing I would think. I don't know how many trailers you've pulled but when I first started I was always worried about any movement out of every day normal driving. Now that I have pulled several trailers Fifth Wheel campers up to 38ft and travel trailers up to 43ft I don't even think twice about it. You have more than enough truck for that camper:U: Happy Camping :c:

yeah i am sure that you would notice if something was way out of wack. i have had one slip off on me, and tust me.... you feel it. but there are lots of things that you could be feeling that would be "abnormal", i wouldnt worry about it to much.

A TT trailer just has that feeling. I only pull goosenecks but every now and then I will hook up to a TT trailer. They just kind of worm the truck around compared to a gn. Make sure the stuff you put inside makes the balance right. Balance is the key with a TT or GN.

Yeah a 33Ft TT is going to bounce a little bit o nthe back end of the truck. You didnt specify the truck completly, is it a regular cab, quad cab. I know u said regular bed, so I am assuming 8ft (long) bed?

I would assume with the tires inflated properly, and the trailer leveled out correctly, it shouldnt be too bad. Personally, any TT over 25Ft doesnt belong behind a SRW truck. My dad has a 28.5 footer, and has hauled it with a 98 Dodge 1/2 ton short bed quad cab, and it did an ok job, but not quite the truck for the job, I dont know about his new truck (05 2500 quadcab short bed HEMI. :ph: ) But my uncles 04 GMC 2500HD reg cab long bed didnt do that great either. Just too much sway. 7500 pounds or not its just too long of a trailer for your truck. Need a dually.

I know when i have my 26ft car trailer on empty i get the bouncing but with my 35ft camper i dont get anything

Some air bags or timbrens will help. If your front end feels light then its not loaded properly.
