5er hitches
 

Does anyone have any experience with this type of hitch for converting a 5th wheel to a gooseneck? There's 2 listed here but I am looking at the "Ranch Hitch".
I am shoping for a 5er camper and I already have a ball in the bed so i don't see any reason to get a 5th wheel hitch if i can use one of these.
Any input would be appreciated.

I have the Pop-UP adapter, it works great. It's a little more heavily constructed, adjustable, like I said - works great. I have a shortbed so the offset is nice.

Do you have more information on this "pop up" adapter...i havne't heard of that.

I think you will find that this will void almost all warranties on your RV if you use these. They tend to put alot of extra twisting torque on the neck of your trailer that a 5th wheel isn't designed to handle. If your wanting to go this route of using the gooseneck hitch for a 5th wheel the only safe way to do it is with the B&W hitch system or a Turn Over Ball System which is the same thing. They have an actual 5th wheel plate attachement that uses your gooseneck as the mounting point. I've been in the trailer business for several years and can tell you that I have always succsefully talked anybody interested in these types of adaptors out of em, because in the end I would have refused to sell them. Folks do use them, and like em until the day comes.

I am looking at a smaller 5th wheel...8000 lbs so i thought this kinda hitch might work better on a lighter load.
I know they void the warranty but I am buying a preowned camper so the warranty is already out.

A 5th wheel hitch is by design is only for traveling on smooth level roads so they are designed to be light weight. Not designed at all for strength. A gooseneck on the other hand is designed is designed for off road uneven terrain, both trailer and hitch portion. The gooseneck hitch put's a lot more twist on a trailerhitch than 5th wheel hitch does. So when you connect up an adapter like this there is nothing to absorb that Torque between them, it's all goin directly from the truck to the trailer. In the case of the B&W it is an actual 5th wheel hitch that instead of bolting to the frame uses the gooseneck as a mount that is in turn bolted to the frame. Manufacturers started voiding the warranties because so many of them came back with the hitches twisted right off the trailers. It's hard to explain without having you in front of me with an example of both in front of us.

On a 5th Wheel that King Pin Box is absorbing the twist and torque, so if you don't have that box in between the truck and trailer, like in the case of these adapters you are at risk.

I looked up the B&W hitch system you talked about but I don't see anything that converts a 5th wheel to a gooseneck...am i missing something?

I also did talk to the a camper dealer about using these hitches and he kinda confirmed what you said EXCEPT he said "some" 5er pin boxes aren't built strong enough for these but the model i was looking at he said would be okay to use this converter hitch. I appreciate all the feedback here...keep it coming.

I may be confused here. In you first post you said you already have a ball in your bed, so I was under the assumption that you are talking about already having a goosneck hitch already in the truck.

You wanting to use this gooseneck hitch to pull a 5th wheel trailer.

In the last post, now as I understand it you have a 5th Wheel already installed and wanting to pull a gooseneck.

Trust me, I am easily confused.
