New truck for towing everyday?
Hey all,
I am in the market for a new truck. I own a business that requires me to tow a 20' enclosed trailer about every other day. The trailer weighs 7,000-10,000 lbs usually. I live in souther Missouri ( hilly country). My average trip is 120 miles one way. I have a 3/4 ton that pulls it just fine, but I am wondering if I should upgrade to a one ton and maybe a dually as well. What would you guys want to use to tow this weight everyday in hilly country? |
This is just IMO:humm:
If you tow all the time I would go diesel for sure. Get guages set up so you know what is going on all the time with your motor and transmission. I think you are fine with a 3/4 ton and a 1 ton is ok too but I am not sure you need to go to a DRW for a bumper pull trailer. I pull 8k TT a lot and I have a SRW, no load issues on the tires or axel. I think you get better MPG with SRW, less rolling resistence. I like towing with a longer wheelbase on the highway but others like a short bed for around town. The best brake controller you can find. Sounds like you are already familiar with that part. I put a camera on the back to make hooking up easier since I always do this alone. I always lean towards safety, seen too much stuff happen and I don't want to ever get stuck somewhere for my own lack of planning. good luck! |
