Removing leafs is the only way you're gonna soften the ride. Air bags increase load handling capicity. Some remove leafs and install bags for when they do haul. :c:

Exactly what I have done. I only have 3 leafs per side, and air bags. Rides WAAYYYY better empty, but still has the capacity to haul. It only takes 30psi of air to return my truck to unloaded height with my 5th wheel holiday trailer loaded up.

Are air bags reliable?

They are very, very reliable.

Class 8 rigs have been using them for years and years and many millions of miles with a great deal of reliability in my experience. I have run big rigs with air bags part time since the early 70's and my brother full time for a longer time. He has over 1 million on his current rig not to mention the others he about wore out also. Most equipment with air bags and he has had very little trouble. I can only think of 2 times I lost a bag. Not anywhere the miles my brother has but many more pieces of equipment.
