Removing a 4 inch lift kit
Fifteen years after I first drove one, I finally purchased my first Dodge Cummins a 2001, 2500 4 X 4 with an automatic transmission. The truck also came with a Edge performance chip and 4 - 4 ½ inch lift kit. As I am confined to a wheelchair, I added a Bruno Stowaway Personal lift to asist me to access the truck. In trying out the lift, I noticed that the lift stops about 2 ½ inches lower than the truck seat. If at all possible the lift seat should be level if not just a little higher than truck seat. I am assuming if I remove the lift kit, that I should be able to achieve the desired height out of the lift. As I really can’t get a good look under the truck I am only guessing on what needs to be done to return the truck to its stock condition in this area. I would assume I will need to replace the suspension system, U bolts etc. In talking to a couple of local mechanics to see if they would perform the swap I was told that, there may also be front-end issues, drive shaft replacement. I have noticed that the steering seems somewhat sloppy for lack of a better word. I was hoping to get the swap out done for a grand including labor. I have looked at various lift kits on the internet and I don’t see anything about drive shafts or tie rods being included in the kit. I am sure there are a lot of 2001 owners who have swap their stock setup for a lift kit so tell me what all did you have to replace?
Thanks
