2005 3500 Dually + 265/70R17E = OK or not?
Has anyone tried LT265/70R17E tires on stock 2005 17 x 6.5 inch wheels? I am looking at BFG All Terrain tires and they recommend a 7 inch or larger wheel, but I feel confident that they will fit on the wheel, but I am not sure about the width between the duals in the back. Is there anyone out there running this setup? Do I need a spacer for it to work? I do tow heavy trailers with the truck.
Thanks! Mark |
The problem with running them on too narrow of a wheel is you're deforming the tire and the middle will wear prematurely. :c:

Yea, I know, but the tire is rated for only 0.5 inches more. I know that there are people going way outside the recommendations and getting away with it. I am just frusterated that there is such a limited number of tires available and I want it to look tougher than what the stock tires look like. :dang:

So buy wider wheels, Alcoa's are nice :c:
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- What size are the stock tires ? |
I can't find any wider wheels. Bolt Pattern = 8-165. A 17x7 would be fine. The original tire size is 235/80-17.

That sucks must be inside clearance keeps manufacturers from making wider rims. A 255 tire recomends a 6.5 -8 inch rim so I guess one more centimeter wouldn't make a world of difference :c:

I decided to go with the 245's instead. Thanks for the help!:tu:
